After discovering a revolutionary method of travelling through space at speeds several times faster than light, most of Earth’s nations unite to form one massive organization, with the intent of colonizing nearby stars. Over a dozen colonies are set up on nearby systems and humanity prospers, until the Great Catastrophe happens.   A solar flare cripples Earth, cutting off communication with the colonies, and many countries begin to break away from the United Human Nation. Chaos ensues, and a small nuclear war breaks out which results in the end of the UHN. Earth is knocked back to using technology from centuries ago, but ultimately survives.   The colony systems, however, are hit much harder. They all relied on streams of supplies and information from Earth, and when the stream stops, wars break out on all the colonies as people fight for the limited resources. People resort to living in small, individual groups in with bronze-age levels of technology.   Thousands of years later, Earth manages to rebuild the planet and restore the Nation, and sets out to the stars again to reunite the lost settlements of Humanity.
