Lordslarynx

Terun Elevanum. Speak not what should not be spoken.

Located on the southwestern coasts of the Kingdom, the Lordslarynx is an extensive cliff face formed in a curvature around the seafront, with a span of approximately 0.8 kilometers and maximum height of 470 meters. The cliff is acknowledged as a natural wonder, owing to its exceptional acoustic properties, and is a widely favoured location of rest, memorial and celebration.   Any and all sounds produced within the proximity of the cliff edge are echoed and amplified in gradually escalating volume, a property believed by much of Reuthia to be the work of enchantment. The echoes of the Lordslarynx affect both the volume and tone of the spoken word, with the likes of a mere whisper relayed to the speaker - and all nearby - in the tone and demeanour of standard, audible speech. Spoken at a clear volume, words echo through the cliffs as an aggressive, booming shout.   As a result of the elusive power at Lordslarynx, the cliff has also proven an auditory hazard. Historically, visitors to the cliff face during harsh weathers such as strong winds and thunderstorms have been deafened by the sheer volume of the echo, with the sound of waves and lightning strikes amplified tenfold. Such sounds are recorded to have been audible from as far as Manorstead, a town located in Western Reuthia, nearly ten miles from the cliffs. Lordslarynx is almost exclusively visited during mild weather conditions and gentle winds, as they produce the most clarity for the spoken word, unobstructed by the sounds of nature.   Historically, many citizens of southwestern Reuthia have theorized over the abnormal properties of the cliffs, namely the poet Scedis Parcha, who claimed the recital of his work upon the cliff edge imbued his words with a narrative weight and power to which he credited his success, as well as consulting the Lordslarynx with decisions upon which language to use in his writing. One year prior to his death in a510, Parcha commissioned that a decorative pillar be placed by the cliff edge in order to commemorate his special relationship with the landmark, engraved with runes of the Moonswallower and translated to 'Terun Elevanum. Speak not what should not be spoken.' The pillar remains on the site at present and has across time inspired the placement of further commemorative stones of varying size across the cliff edge, some engraved with names of the deceased, others with stories and prose.
