22nd Century Cowboys

In the year 2122, mankind has made great strides. We have expanded into the stars, yet can't escape our nature. On the colony of Mars, a final bloody battle took place to secure the future and autonomy of the humans who had earned their place in the stars through toil and sacrifice. The Space Farers earned their freedom, but the war had spawned a great rift between Earth and the rest of the space colonies.   Now, billions had to face the mundane reality of peace, to forgive and move on, but was such a thing even possible? Slowly, the people of their respective planets returned home to rebuild what had been destroyed, and once again look to a better future. The megacorporations that had gotten fat from the war had other plans in mind, to reopen old wounds and line their pockets once again with the misery of a tired lot.   They had the governments on their payroll, and sought to set fires wherever they could. Creating artificial shortages to control the prices of goods, and funding criminal organizations to keep the people in check. For the people who lived under their watchful eyes, it just became a way of life. However, there were those who lived simpler lives, outside the reach of these megacorporations. These so-called Cowboys, lived in their own communities, and answered only to themselves. It was their way before the war, and it would be their way after. But the megacorporations had one by one decided that the Cowboys cannot be permitted to exist without their consent, and so sent their hounds after them. Though the Cowboys were battle hardened after years of conflict, so were their aggressors.   Though they gave as good as they got, the Cowboys were fighting a losing battle. Slowly the lively chatter on the telecoms went quiet, as families went into hiding. However, one Cowboy managed to send out a desperate plea to every free ranger on every planet, to put their grudges aside and work together for the sake of their continued existence as a free people. Though no one answered, the message was heard, and plans were set into motion. They decided to take the fight to the megacorporations, and to start a war so costly, it would shake them to their very foundations. And so a people took up arms once again. They are the 22nd Century Cowboys.
