Asmodeus - The Nine Hells

Asmodeus is the deity of indulgence. He is the Lord of the Ninth Hell and overlord of all Nine Hells. He is the Arch-Devil of the Arch-Devils. Enigmatic, impossibly ancient and terribly evil, Asmodeus is not one to deal with lightly.

Usual Location

Asmodeus rules the Nine Hells of Baator and has his seat of power in the Ninth Hell, Nessus. As both a greater deity, Arch-Devil and overlord of all Nine Hells he has eyes and ears everywhere. On the material plane is a bit more limited, but as a greater deity he has a non-unsubstantial number of adherents and followers ready to curry favor with him.

Common Knowledge

As far as anyone knows or cares, Asmodeus has existed for eternity and will do so for an eternity more. He is credited as the first devil and the original of all other devils. Whether this is actually true, or something that Asmodeus has made sure is what everyone knows is another matter. His goals and plans are unknown and eludes almost all. Somewhat recently he plotted the downfall of Azuth to Nessus, where Asmodeus proceeded to consume the god. Even if Mystra managed to convince Asmodeus to let Azuth go, Asmodeus grew more powerful from the meal. Yet despite this his current strength is not what he once had in eternities past.   No one now alive has ever met him. Not even his Arch-Devils know exactly what he looks like and his true location is kept secret from exactly everyone. At one point a group of devils managed to locate him, but after their swift and very public deaths no one followed in their footsteps. When interacting with other creatures he uses humanoid-looking avatars. Some are existing creatures possessed by him, others are simply molded. What he uses depends on the mood he happens to have that century. Descriptions of his true appearance are fanciful. One ancient scripture describes him as a wingless scaled serpent, hundred of miles long.

Adventurers & the Icon

The allure of power is strong, and adventurers are especially prone to fall victims of their own greed. The adventurer-turned-Queen Muuna spent an undisclosed amount of time in Hell as a servant of Asmodeus, leaving more powerful than before.

Allies

Asmodeus has little use of allies. He has some business arrangements, depending on what benefits him the most.

Enemies

Outside of the demons of the abyss, Asmodeus does not have true enemies. Others may view him as an enemy, but he views them as mere inconveniences.

The True Danger

Both the prospect of Asmodeus succeeding and falling would spell dire consequences for all of Faerûn.
