Kobolitztli

Futuristic salmonella

Kobolitztli can be compared to the black death, as it spread quickly because of high population and an empire's territory extending from continent to continent, although it has nothing to do with the famous plague. It is in fact an evolved form of salmonella that appeared in Europe around the sixth millenia and spread across Asia and Europe during the Fengati golden age. Before that, Europe didn't have any real country or political system, except for a few fortified settlements along great rivers. Thanks to that, Kobolitztli couldn't truly spread and some livestock had to be put to death and burnt from time to time. Plus, Europeans at that time grew more resistant to it. But during the siege of Irqum, in 12254, some livestock was intoxicated by Kobolitztli within the fortified city and the inhabitants had no better idea than to shoot these out of the city with catapults. Fengati people had very fine ways to cook and clean meat but during military campaigns they would never bring terrestrial meat, but rather salted fish or dried vegetables. Some of their warriors saw it as an opportunity to simply clean the meat and cook it before eating it, not knowing the cattle the inhabitants sent were obviously contaminated. It is still unknown or argued why on earth these extremely disciplined and educated warriors would do such a thing. The intoxicated warriors were sent back to Fengati cities while their bodies were still fighting against the bacteria. A month later, about 37% of the population was contaminated, and in 12257, three years later, the disease was cured. Since, Kobolitztli samples are kept safely in labs for studies and the cure is easy to fabricate in most conditions. In 13600, some cases are still spotted in Middle-East, Europe and Northern Asia and poses a small threat to poor countries. In total, it killed about 14 millions people and infected about 16 million people at its highest.

Transmission & Vectors

Kobolitztli can be transmitted from being to being through contact with water, feces or meat.

Causes

This kind of evolved salmonella can easily be transmitted and survive in cold environments, but is not adapted to warm, humid climates.

Symptoms

Too often, Kobolitztli can be mistaken for a simple virus, as its main symptoms are fever. If the infection spreads too much in the patient's intestines, it can lead to vomiting, then death in most cases. Although some people who have mixed origins or who are originating from Europe can be naturally resistant to it.

Affected Groups

Some people, although these are very rare, can be resistant carriers of the disease. These people are mostly found in Europe.

Hosts & Carriers

Any terrestrial animal with long enough intestines could be infected by Kobolitztli, although it can depend on the type of intestinal flaura the animal has.

Cultural Reception

This disease changed a part of Fengati culture regarding hygiene. It's the reason why Fengati people often go to hot public baths, never shake hands and don't make religious ceremonies when a baby is born. It also added parts to their philosophy, about hygiene and being phisically clean.
