Ilinia

Demographics

Nobody cares. Whatever semblance of a society here is very apathetic.

Government

Ilinia has a heavy history of being a dictatorship. Whatever you call government as of now would be very weak from people just being fed up and deciding they’d rather die then live in a world like that. What I’m implying is the corrupt government officials who were very attached to their lives were fighting enraged citizens who wouldn’t give a damn about losing their life, and even had backup plans in case they were imprisoned for interrogation, torture, or both. It wasn’t pretty, and has left the country in a form of anarchy. People have been afraid to start up a government again out of fear that the citizens would turn on them, even if the government is founded with good intentions. Law enforcement officers are really just locals who got their hands on firearms. If someone needs help, they need to know the right person. Because there’s a pretty good chance that if they don’t, they aren’t getting help or they are going to be in a lot worse of a situation.

Defences

Nobody cares if someone leaves or enters the country. At least not anymore. If disputes get bad, it gets solved with guns.

Assets

The most common tree is the white pine, found near the subarctic and almost everywhere south within the country. The grass grows up to your knees and the wildflowers don’t typically have much of a smell. Bitter is most common a scent if you find a scented wildflower. You’ll likely not find either of those in the coniferous forests, but don’t be too surprised if you find them growing in a patch of sunlight. There are oaks, maple, willows, ash, sycamore and some other species of trees growing here. Most of which aren’t adapted to the far north. Especially the palm trees, which typically grow near the southern border. Animals that live here include many arctic species, marine and terrestrial. I can provide a long list of animals that live in the subarctic of Ilinia. And you know what? I can do that. Terns, polar bears, (arctic) hares, foxes, wolves, owls, and ground squirrels, lemmings, wolverines, geese, caribou, seals, whales, walruses, and lynxes. That maybe doesn’t seem like a whole lot, but if you count every subspecies of the animals, then I’d consider that a lot. The arctic may seem pretty dead, but it is full of life. Take a magnifying glass to some of the coldest foggy water here and you’ll see what I mean. Aside from arctic animals, there are a fair amount of temperate counterparts, such as: brown bears, black bears, red foxes, geese because remember they’re a migratory bird, white-tailed deer, spotted deer, grey wolves, a lot of owls and other birds really, regular ground squirrels and so on.

Geography

It’s cold. The north especially so. The south? Not so much, it’s more temperate. Point is, the rivers to the north are frozen throughout spring, fall and winter. If you’re north enough, they’re even frozen year round. Under a continent sized glacier. In the colder but not quite frozen areas, it’s mostly grasslands with some coniferous forest here and there. Close to the equator, you’ll find a fair share of wetlands, and a few temperate forests.

Natural Resources

Alfalfa seems to grow wherever the seeds can touch the dirt. That’s a good thing for wildlife and grazing livestock, but not so much for crop farmers in the area. Wild alfalfa isn’t nearly as abundant as the crops are, and the roots tend to strangle other plants before they can reach the surface. Due to this problem, crop farmers normally switch to the trade of orchard keeping, where the tree’s roots are too thick for a skinny plant like alfalfa to strangle it, as long as the tree started growing in a nursery. People keeping livestock have had a better time. Caribou have been domesticated; sheep, goats and rabbits could handle the winters if they were kept in a warm barn overnight and during snow and rainstorms, sheep could handle the rain better; and poultry would spend most of their time in the coop.
