Compass Hummer

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Orbis has long tail feathers, slightly longer than its black tailed relative. Its feathers are normally a shiny yellow green complimented with fiery orange like a marigold. What sets it apart, however, from the other two species of the trainbearer genus, are the markings at the corners and edges of its eyes. One could think it akin to the arrows on a compass rose.

Genetics and Reproduction

Oviparous.

Growth Rate & Stages

Hatches from a week and a half to two and a half weeks. Grows feathers eight days after hatching and are entirely dependent on their mother for three weeks after hatching. They leave the nest after about three weeks.

Ecology and Habitats

Somewhere that’s warm and humid year round, where flowers are constantly growing.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Must eat approximately half its weight in sugar daily. Will occasionally eat bugs, tree sap and fruit juice, but primarily drinks the nectar from flowers.
