I managed to work around it by using the 'Old Version Edit' by clicking the symbol in the upper right of the template.

I don't understand how to access Old Version Edit. In the top-right corner of the Maps tab, there's only an X to close the tab.

The template doesn't let me upload an image to actually start a map template.

Hey, please refer to the original bug report submitted for this issue to track for updates and upvote it to receive notifications for it! We have deployed a fix that should resolve the error appearing when loading articles.
