Feature Guide to the Meta

The meta is a section of your world where you can keep everything about your world that isn't in your world. This includes things like your inspirations, your world's genre and themes, and much more. Most people have some sort of meta document to keep all of this, as it's a really useful tool to not only stay consistent long-term, but also motivated! So let's take a look at how the meta works on World Anvil.

Creating your meta

To create your world's meta:

  1. Click the gear icon on the left.
  2. Then, click the icon to access the meta.
  3. Start writing!

The first think you'll see is an explanation of what the meta is and how to use it. Additionally, each tab has fields with more specific explanations that should guide you through the entire thing!

As always on World Anvil, you don't need to fill it up to 100% completion if you don't want or need to. The meta is simply a tool to help you make your world better, so it's up to you to decide how to go about it!

Additional meta options

There's a couple of options available in the meta sidebar:

  • Mark as completed: this will remove the progress indicator when editing the meta (even if it's not at 100%).
  • Display meta to everyone: uncheck this to hide the meta from everyone but you. If this is checked, there will be a button to view the meta in the world homepage.
