Session 1- The Adventure Begins... Report

General Summary

The heroes exited the vault and rushed from the vaults below Thornvine and into the town’s main thoroughfare. They were greeted with several magical manifestations of spells, creatures that would later become known as “spellstruck.” A pair of the creatures exploded as they died, and others erupted into giant clouds of fog, but the heroes prevailed and earned a brief conversation with Kerrick Silvermind of the Mage University, who invited them to a dinner in their great hall, three days hence.
The party returned to the Singing Sorcerer where they met, formally, Dwight Tuttlemen, the barkeep (but not the owner) who asked them to assist in restocking the tavern. The Oatmeal Stout was being held by Old Man Whitley, a prominent farmer outside of town and some casks of Forest Red wine were already purchased, but not retrieved from the local winery. The heroes successfully retrieved both, the first after emptying Old Man Whitley’s barn of a number of plant spirits and vine creatures (and earning a fine handmade for their trouble) and the second after forging (and bribing) the Shon-Turian troops who had taken over the winery.
Father Brenan also visited the blacksmith, Farlow Greenslate, who seemed hardened and stoic, but also out of weapons and raw iron. He indicated he would pay 5 gold per slag of ore retrieved from the Ravens Cliff Mine.
The party also split up, with some members heading to find a refugee camp, led by Glim, who seemed the most concerned about finding allies against the troops occupying the winery. The party met with a physically-impressive soldier named Reinheart Avatarius, who refused to help fight the troops but did ask for assistance with the 30 or so people he was protecting. Wood timbers for securing the camp, weapons to arm the commoners, or clearing out the homes in the western side of Thornvine. The heroes left after a brief exchange and returned to town.
Ironically, the three heroes who stayed behind, Earendel, Rupert, and Harrigan, found themselves “exploring” the largely-abandoned west portion of Thornvine. After identifying a strange burning sound, the three barged into a small home and came face-to-face with a pair of flame snakes. The trio nearly submitted to the fiery beasts after Rupert fell to a vicious bite attack, but Harrigan dragged him away while Earendel exited a window.
After returning to the inn and reuniting with their companions, and availing themselves of a brief respite, the eight adventurers returned to the home and quickly defeated the flaming reptiles, helped in large measure by Glim’s trapmaking. Harrigan discovered an unusual red chalice in the second-floor bedroom.
To where will the adventurers turn next? After an interesting meeting with Deidelheir Teine, a self-proclaimed magical artisan and merchant from Lionsmane, the party seemed to have made their first friend. In exchange for vouching for Deid, the arcanist offered them the use of a device that he called a captara, a small magical sphere that the group witnessed Deid use to capture a rogue spellstruck that had flown into the tavern only minutes before. Deid also told the group that he would reward them handsomely if they could capture additional spellstruck and bring them to him to his store “Deid’s: Fine and Magical” in the Westerlies district of Lionsmane.
Following the departure of the wizard, and another round of drinks from Dwight, the party decided to track down the final shipment of drink for the barkeep: a dwarven cart of Ember Ale from Gordunshome in the north. All the party knows for sure is that the caravan should have been coming down the West Road.
