Session 2: Adventurin' We Go Report

General Summary

Date: Venday RainRun 17, 27930 9th Age

Etin made his way from the Temple toward the Oak and Dagger Tavern to meet his friends. He noticed several things. First, he saw Themis the head Curate of the Thornwall Temple of Huvoi ride off out of town with two of her paladins. Next, he saw many posters advertising the upcoming election and announcing adventuring licenses tacked onto walls and buildings. All seemed to be placed quite low.   Valen met Flidais who was in her Winter persona. She was not happy the rest were late. Valen told Flidais about the fight with the skeletons. She did not seem impressed. Amber the bar maid heard about the fight as well.   Tri arrived, a bit off cheese. He was keen to watch breakfast being cooked to monitor it. Devin the bar man took him back to meet his and Amber's mother, Estelle, who is the tavern cook. Estelle introduced Tri to bacon which Tri was happy to eat. He also learned pigs lived up the road.   Etin finally arrived at the tavern and joined the others. Symon the tavern owner greeted them. Amber told Valen that Constable Brom lived at the tavern and had left earlier that morning. As the party argued, a tonttu ran in carrying a bunch of flyers. He shoved one at Symon, shouted "Don't forget about the Tokens!" and ran out.   The flyer announced a bounty from the Office of the Mayor for clearing out bandits from a nearby Tin Mine. Symon explained there was a new scheme from the village council. By doing bounties or jobs for citizens, adventuring parties would receive tokens. Symon said the Council had not decided yet if 5 or 10 tokens were necessary for a license. Symon also said he had some errands he needed done and could award a token.   After some discussion, the party decided to take on the bandits at the Tin Mine first to get a token. Symon told them the way. Before leaving town, they went past the village records office behind the Temple of Vidur for Valen. Nobody seemed to be there and the building was shut up tight. Tri also got the party some cheese from Doldar.   They followed the north road along the river. Tri easily found the overgrown path leading toward the abandoned Tin Mine. As they entered the dense, hilly forest near the mine, Etin noticed what looked like a massive metal statue of a stag up a steep slope. The party climbed up toward it to investigate. Etin slipped on the slope and fell back into Valen, causing the bard to fall back. Tri easily caught both before they tumbled down. When the party reached the top of the hill, they found the statue completely missing. A search turned up nothing else strange in the area, but Etin momentarily detected the presence of a celestial. The party decided to move on.   They snuck up on the mine opening and saw two ruined buildings. Etin and Flidais investigated the smallest building. They fond nothing but junk and debris inside. Tri threw Valen up on the building's roof so he could look inside the mine. Valen did not see anything, and he fell through the rotted roof onto Etin.   The party ignored the second building outside and entered the mine. The followed a set of minecart rails that wound around the edge of the circular mineshaft clockwise. They soon came upon a body of a man in a green cloak and a facemask. He was stabbed and had no items on him. Valen took his cloak. Walking on further, the party found two more bodies, also in green cloaks and facemasks. To the right, the mine shaft plunged into darkness.   In two chambers, the party found bedroom furniture. Flidais found some copper, a bottle of wine, and some dice. She gave the dice to Tri. In an adjacent chamber filled with trash, Valen searched for treasure. A swarm of rats attacked Valen and Etin. Flidais and Tri joined in and the rats were defeated. Valen found no treasure in the trash.   Valen investigated a swaying wooden walkway that extended out into the center of the mineshaft. He heard rushing water and faint voices from the bottom of the mine. After he did that, Tri smashed the walkway.   Venturing deeper into the mine along the tracks, the party found a room with more recently killed bodies and an unlit campfire. Going into an adjacent room, a tripwire trap caused a mounted crossbow to slightly damage Flidais. The party found a lot of stolen items including bolts of silk, casks of ale and wine, cheese, nails, documents, and three potions. The documents were merchant caravan manifests, many for items in the room. Etin took the potions. Valen also gave the crossbow and its single bolt to Etin.   Continuing further, the party reached the bottom of the mine, passing a large waterfall and a room where two more green cloaked humans were killed. Valen and Etin investigated a passageway and heard people talking. They returned and got the rest of the party and approached the voices. The party found another adventuring party made up of an elf male fighter, a human female cleric, a tonttu male thief, and a human male spellcaster of some sort. The tonttu was attempting to break into a locked chest that Etin noticed was marked with the sign of Huvoi. Three dead bodies in green cloaks also lay on the floor.   The second party was dismissive and brusque, and wore an insignia on their equipment. They introduced themselves as the Dire Dogs (and barked). The tonttu continued to try breaking into the chest. He succeeded in smashing the top, and as he did, a blast of arcane energy burst out and rolled through the mine. Almost immediately, the three dead bodies on the ground stirred, stood up, and began to attack both parties.   The Dire Dogs attacked the zombies. Tri attempted to not hit a zombie but could not help but hit one. Valen kept attempting to mock a zombie from the raised part of the room, but they did not pay any attention to him. Etin attacked several zombies, defeating one. Tri smashed another. One more zombie rushed into the room from the north. It bashed Flidais as it entered.   The fight continues...
