Session 11: A Battle Worth Fighting?

General Summary

3rd Myrkule 234 4E

The party enacted their plan. They attacked from the south while Fallili's men attacked from the north, pincering the castle between them.   As the party charged in Avina imbued Willum with her magic, boosting his speed and reflexes to aid him as he darted in front of the others to get to Hrefna quickly and pin her down. Meanwhile, Meridas created an illusion of a huge monstrous creature and sent it flying at the castle, drawing the attention and arrows of many of the bandits. And then they were in the fray. Hrefna was pushed back by Willum and retreated around the keep only to be faced with the rest of the party. Willum was surrounded by her men and pinned down, but he stood his ground. Avina, Meridas and Tawny piled in on Hrefna, thwarting her spells and thrusting her onto the back foot, while Odhran protected their backs from the incoming bandits. Fallili's men did not fare so well - caught in the small gap of the broken wall they were bombarded by bolt and arcane flame from the parapets above them. As the party were pushing Hrefna to her last resources, the soldiers were all cut down, with only Stievna successfully retreating.   With all her attempts and spells being thwarted, Hrefna disappeared into a rift with a crack, a twin sound echoing from the camp in the castle's bailey. Avina set off in pursuit. She caught the mage coming out of one of the tents, the bundle in her arms, and without hesitation used her greatest magic to drain the life from her, Hrefna's body shrivelling and cracking as she collapsed. Avina broke the bundle free from her arms and dashed into the woods away from the castle.   The others followed after her, harried by the bolts and arrows of the bandits. They took many hits but managed to get away, their similarly injured foes stopping their pursuit. On their way, Willum came across the withered body of Hrefna. Remembering that they needed proof of her death for their contract, he hoisted the corpse over his shoulder and hurried after the others.

Session Log - Willum

After Hrefna had fled the camp in the middle of our fight we followed her and gather around the old castle ready to strike. We made a plan where I would go in and try to keep Hrefna in place and to do so Avina cast a spell on me to make me move faster. With the spell I charged in, but there were a lot more people than expected.   I managed to stand my ground while waiting for my compatriots to catch up, but Hrefna magicked away and then I was fatigued by Avina’s spell ending so I couldn’t follow her. The othesr managed to fight her though, while I was fighting on the other side of the stronghold. Hrefna had many men there and they were stronger than the ones at the camp, so they killed all of Fallili’s men.   Avina did finally manage to kill Hrefna and we fled. I am not sure it was worth all the death, but we managed to get Hrefna’s stone. It reminds me of the big stone back home since it has the same markings. It is like a chunk right out of it and it is making me kind of homesick. It does make me wonder if there are more of them about, maybe even more of us at each of them, or at least someone very much like us. It seems like Hrefna was putting down the markings on paper, maybe she was trying to figure out what they mean. I know you all have your own interpretation of the one back home, and this one chunk makes me want to come home more than anything else both so I can see you all again but also so I can compare it with our stone. But before I come home, I think I should try and find where this chunk is from, since I will have to come all the way back here again if I go home first.   This new stone is like a piece of home has come to me.   May these words be carried to my kin on the northward winds…
