Session 8: Last Minute Reveals

General Summary

29th - 31st Sharali 234 4E   The party and their companions set out for Hrefna's camp at Telan's Pass, moving at a steady pace to avoid exhausting themselves. Willum, with the help of some of the locals, picked out their path; Tawny scouted ahead of the convoy with some of Hrefna's men; Meridas kept an eye on the line and kept everyone to pace; Avina and Odhran whipped up the meals and kept everyone's bellies full and spirits high.   On the second day the tracks were lost, leading the party down the wrong path and losing them half a day of travel. During the commotion, Meridas noticed that two of the villagers had gone missing. They and Tawny rode back along the path taken and found where they'd wandered off, soon afterwards also finding the pair of villagers. But they weren't alone. Some of Hrefna's scouts had jumped them when the pair had stepped away from the main group, and now were beating and questioning them.   Meridas and Tawny snuck up on the scouts and attacked, quickly dispatching two of them but one managed to flee. A tense chase ensued, the three of them plunging through snow and undergrowth, and finally Meridas and Tawny wrestled the scout to the ground just before he reached his horse and got away.   They briefly interrogated him, learning that when the group didn't return from Brombie Hrefna had increased her scouts and also sent extra of her men to Kydus Castle, leaving on twenty or so in the main camp. Then he was silenced for good. The pair returned to the main group with the beaten villagers and they all pushed on, making camp only a few miles from the enemy.   That night their fires were spotted, with Willum noticing movement in the trees that upon investigation revealed the tracks of one of Hrefna's scouts, crouched in the darkness and watching the camp. Complete surprise was lost, but it was too late for Hrefna to call back her men or set up extra defences. At dawn, they would attack.

Session Log - Avina

I'd really like to know what has got into Tawny. There has always been something off about him, but keeping the fact that he's actually acquainted with Hrefna a secret for weeks just seems like the height of absurdity. The plan is set into motion now, we're striking in the morning. I could understand if he needs some information from her, but why didn't he tell us beforehand, so we could plan around it? Kylor only knows what's going on behind that shiny mask. I guess I'll try my best to keep her alive, but I'd rather see her dead as soon as possible. She's dangerous, we cannot afford to underestimate her.   I should get some rest, the journey was exhausting enough. But I'm nervous. If Meridas hadn't noticed that two villagers had gone missing our moment of surprise might have been ruined. And it still might be. Willum saw someone skulking around our camp. If that was one of Hrefna's men, we might be out of luck all together.   This is the culmination of all our preparations. I must have gone over my spell book at least a dozen times to make sure I have it all memorised. I'm sorry to say it, but I don't think I can make Tawny's request a priority. There is just too much at stake.
