Broken Obelisk Session 3 Report

General Summary

Session 3: 22-12-2024

The party are in the burning broken remains of the dormitory. They search the room but find nothing but the charred remains of the Goblins and a cave-in in a small room behind a door.

 

They check the door on the other side of the room and find a long corridor and they cautiously advance through the hallway but get attacked by a group of Goblins when they round the corner. They engage the Goblins with Torold at the front but he gets badly hurt by the psionic creatures and two of their commanders join the fight and things start to turn in the Goblins favour.

 

Fa-Medve manages to create a magical dome that protects all within and the Goblins stand confused and try to break into it. Ronaunur and Geralt try to sneak around the other corner and ambush the Goblins but they get spotted by one of the commanders. A psychic assault follows and Ronaunur manages to use his Orcish fortitude to survive.

 

After killing the Goblins and one of their Commanders the remaining one turns invisible and manages to escape. After taking a short rest and getting some healing they notice that suddenly they experience a sharp headache and a pressure in their minds. It feels quite similar to the event back when they first entered the town. Bruise also notices that the skin on his forearm has turned a strange shade of purple.

 

Fa-Medve and Ronaunur start having an argument about the magical dagger after Ron mentions he's been hearing voices from the item. It gets heated and Torold notices he is clutching his dagger and being very protective of it as well as eyeing him and Fa-Medve suspiciously. They agree to bury the hatchet for now and discuss it more later.

 

They explore further down the corridor and find what appears to be a kitchen area with a pantry filled with half-eaten and rotten food. Fa-Medve sees a badger in the back rummaging through some of the spoiled food.

 

They continue on to the door at the end of the hallway and Bruise hyped up by the fight bashes the rickety old door down. Inside they see a simple dirty old bed and some cupboards and a desk in one of the corners. Bruise and Torold use their great weapons to check if the invisible creature is somewhere nearby but find nothing. On the desk in the corner they hear some murmuring that seems to be coming from a strange vase.

 

Another door is found in the back and this leads to a hole that seems to quite deep. Bruise uses his Coin of Delving to determine that it's 180 ft (55m) deep. Trix is inspecting the room by magic reveals that a vase on the desk is enchanted with Necromantic magic and he also gets a faint magical signal from behind one of the walls. Thinking back on his studies he recalls that this is a soul jar and contains the soul or spirit of a dead creature.  

Bruise finds a hidden door in the wall and manages to manipulate the lock and opens the secret door into what seems to be an old vault. They recover 400gp in gold coins, 100gp worth of jade pieces, 1 peridot worth 500gp and 3 tapestries worth 225gp.

 

Leaving the room behind they go into the kitchen area and befriend the badger although Trix tries to kill it with a shocking grasp spell. Fortunately Geralt manages to dodge out of the way and the party argues with Trix who seems to think it was just a funny joke. After some argueing they continue to investigate the kitchen and find 2 potions and a tunnel dug by the badger. Trix goes through and finds a way out of the fortress into the cavern and comes back.

 

They start down the corridor towards the other end to the last remaining door. They go through and find a large chamber with a huge glass window looking out on a lake of lava filling the chamber in a red glow. They see a rough barricade has been erected down the path with 3 small figures standing motionless. The party gets closer and identifies them as some sort of Druegar zombies. They don't seem to react to the party in any way until the barricade is dissembled and Geralt passes the line when one of the zombies lurges towards him.

 

Doing some experiments with how the zombies react they notice they twitch slightly at the appearance of the soul jar. After some discuss they set themselves up to attack and engage the creatures dispatching them quickly.
