Broken Obelisk Session 4
General Summary
Session 4: 05-01-2024
The party is standing over the destroyed bodies of the Druegar zombies and take in the large cavern with it's equipment and the two large windows looking out over a lake of lava. Above their heads is a rail system with large buckets hanging from them and in the end they can see them disappear into a dark cave.
After a quick investigation of the room they discover a box set into one of the pillars supporting the rail system with a dull crystal inside. During this time an argument starts between Trix and Bruise. The other members join in and start about their suspicions. Trix meanwhile identifies the crystal as a power crystal and after some debate he powers it with a spell. The buckets start moving along the rail system.
Bruise quickly jumps into one of the buckets and calls for the others to do the same. Ron, Geralt, Trix and Torold decide to go into the Pocket Plane and Fa-Medve jumps into one of the buckets and it moves towards the dark cave. Inside the pocket plane they have a discussion with Ron to surrender the magical dagger but he finds that he's unable to remove it.
Arriving in the bend where the buckets return upwards into the mine the party gathers having jumped out of the buckets and released from the pocket plane. They look around at a room filled with crates, buckets unhooked and ancient dwarven mining equipment. They inspect the two corridors to the side and discover an area filled with sewage and waste inhabited by an Otyugh and another where 6 dark figures are working on a cliff up high.
Bruise looks into the other corridor lit by the lava lake to the side and sees 6 figures that look similar to the Druegar zombies earlier. Suddenly he hears a voice in his mind asking what he's doing here. They reveal themselves as Druegar dead but these ones don't seem hostile and they assure them they can keep their feral brethren passive. They don't know much about the Mind Flayers and the Goblins and only seem to care about gems and gold. They tell them they saw humanoids being led down into the sanctum, a pyramid in the lava lake, and for a few gems they will let them pass while keeping the feral zombies under control.
At the door Bruise notices a pattern of Dwarven runes on the door and identifies some of the letters spell 'Open' in Dwarvish so he rotates the locking mechanism. The door opens to reveal a small hallway leading to a circular platform with two buttons on the wall for Up and Down. They go down into the Sanctum.
At the bottom the doors open again and they see a chamber lit by the glow of lava in front of them a large statue of a dwarven woman, broken and defaced, unable to recognise anything. Suddenly Geralt sees a glimpse of a green glowing creature behind the statue and he starts hearing a voice in his head. His eyes go vacant and he raises his bow and shoots Trix but Torold manages to knock the arrow away and he turns and shoot another arrow at Torold. Seeing him like this he sees that he has been charmed by something.
Goblins with psionic power appear in each corner and the party launches into battle. The green glowing creature flies up next to the remains of the statue, a weird purple monster with green patches on his skin and tentacles sprouting from it's body. Vaguely similar to a mind flayer this is a strange monstrosity that hits them psionic magic leaving most of the party unable to act. Meanwhile one of the Goblins psychically throws Bruise into the lava and he starts to burn. The other party members rush to him to pull him out and eventually Fa-Medve manages to get him out.
After a hard battle Ron suprises the creature by shooting him from his hiding spot and it falls dead on the ground. Beaten and bloodied the party gathers to start investigating the area. A few minutes later, a piercing headache erupts in each of your minds and you see in your mind's eye the face of a Mind Flayer. It says: “So you have succeeded. Good. The key shards and the sacrifices are on the Nautiloid and shall arrive at our stronghold soon. Now two remain to be found. You know your task, little one. Collect the key shards from the Dragon's Hoard, the Crypt of the Netherese Mage, and bring them to our Emissary on Glyth. This world shall be reborn even greater than you can imagine, and it shall become ours.”
