Broken Obelisk Session 8

General Summary

Session 8: 2025-03-02

The party starts in the forest where they meet a Druid Aarakocra by the name of Kaxxa Diraba, an old friend of Torold who set out to find him after his parents mentioned he wa adventuring in the area.

They discuss a plan on how to acquire the Keyshard from the Dragon's Hoard. They'll split up with one team trying to sneak into the tower, one waiting to engage in diplomacy and another to backup in case of a fight breaking out. Ron and Geralt are turned invisible by Trix's magic and bolstered by the ranger's spell they sneak closer to the tower. Without making a noise they come upon the threshold into the tower however a trap is missed and set off an alarm waking the dragon!

The party scatters and runs in different directions but the dragon flies up and locks on to Kaxxa and Torold. Kaxxa quickly prostates himself and convinces the dragon they're here to serve him. The dragon explains that he will let them live if they help ridding itself from a curse it contracted from eating the zombies.

They must go down into a chasm that leads into the cavern where a Solar who followed Zariel fell and turned into a Devil. The lines between the planes blur in this place and have created a portal into Avernus, first layer of Hell and dominion of Arch-Devil Zariel, a fallen Angel herself. An item of tremendous power wielded by the fallen Solar remains is spreading Infernal corruption to the surrounding lands and is the source of the curse infecting the dragon. It doesn't know what this item is but must be an corrupted Angelic artifact.

After a night camping in the woods they approach the entrance to the chasm on top of the rubble of one of the houses. The party enters the Pocket Plane while Kaxxa flies down and releases them at the bottom. They see a rough obsidian staircase leading further down into the depths with a sinister red glow noticeable in the distance.

Traveling down the stairs they notice it suddenly goes up and opens up into a large cavern with stone plateaus interconnected with stairways leading up into a large structure in the distance. They see the first plateau ahead of them a hexagonal shape made from what appears glass and black iron with an infernal red glow shining through them. Ron checks for traps but sets off a rune and is teleported away into a stone prison with black metal bars.

Meanwhile the party sees Ron disappears but before they can act Bruise is dragged away and almost falls over the side. He is saved by Torold but as he pulls him up is struck by a black arrow that explodes in a black puff of smoke as pain and necrosis sets into the wound. A creature unseen is shooting arrows at them and the party gets ready to fight it off!

Eventually they see a red winged creature with the shape of a woman with long horns, red skin wearing armor and wielding a bow unfurl from the cavern ceiling above. She shoots 3 arrows at the party but receives a barrage of axes, javelins and magic in return and it turns invisible and flees but is being tracked by a magical mark placed by Geralt.

Finding Ron nearby in a cell Bruise releases him and they return to the party.
