Broken Obelisk Session 10 Report
General Summary
Session 10: 30-03-2025
The party stands before the Fallen Deva with his grey, red streaked skin and wings with reds and black patches. He addresses them in a monotone voice addressing their questions explaining he is under a malevolent Geas placed on him by his Lady Raeena. She is a Fallen angelic being and close friend of Zariel, the Arch-Devil of Avernus.
The options to break his curse is to claim the sword of Raeena floating behind him and strike him with or kill him in the conventional way which will release his soul to return to the Upper Planes. However the sword is sentient and will only bind itself to one it deems worthy of it. Likely a good and virtuous person especially a devotee of the Morning Lord Lathander.
They decide to explore the rest of the dungeons before moving onto to killing the Fallen Deva. Moving south through a hallway they find a deep well and see something move inside. An imp flies out and stops when Kaxxa yells out to speak to him. He tells them about treasure chambers and a Chain Demon that likes to capture and flay his victims. The imp gives them his name as Marexitopholes and tells them they only have to speak it three times to summon him.
Moving back up to the ruins of town they meet the dragon standing watch over the pit that leads to the hellish prison. After some subtle persuasion, he agrees to let them sleep under his watch until morning when they can go back in and break the curse.
They go back in and use the name of the imp to summon him but a massive ape like Demon emerges from an Abyssal gate attacking the party! They quickly dispatch it however and go back to the Fallen Deva.
Bruise charges in and attempts to attack the Fallen Deva but gets attacked with foul magic tainted by the Hells. He manages to hit the creature while it flies up and does Radiant damage to it with his borrowed mace causing cracks to appear in the corrupted creature sending waves of Divine light healing him. Ron sneaks around and dashes for the sword and grabbing it feeling a sense of acceptance and approval from the sword but sees the creature look back at him.
The Fallen Deva gets hit more and more by Divine magics sending golden cracks through its gray skin, getting hit by arrows from Geralt and fire magic from Trix. Bruise and Ron execute a jump manoevre that sends the barbarian flying but hitting the creature with his berserker rage doing even more damage. Finally Torold calls on his Divine Oath and infuses his sword with Radiant light delivering the final blow that shatters the curse on the creature while they get washed by golden light healing all their injuries and afflictions.
The angelic being tells them to stop and explains he is back in control and the curse is broken on himself and the town above including the dragon. His name is Olanthius of the First Dawn, a Deva of the Morning Lord Lathander and born during the first dawn of the world eons ago. He will accompany the party in slaying the last Devil as they are his sworn enemies before returning to the Upper Planes. He gives a golden token to Kaxxa and he needs only to hold it and speak his name to summon him.
