Broken Obelisk Session 2
General Summary
Session 2: 08-12-2024
Bruise, Ronaunur, Trix and Geralt return with captured Goblins. Although on entering the inn one of the Goblins starts glowing and Bruise manages to throw both of them away. The glowing one explodes in a burst of psychic energy while the other one runs away but not before getting marked by Geralt.
Geralt and Ron rush after the Goblin while Bruise and Trix get the attention of Torold and Fa-Medve. After a short chase through the town and into the hills Geralt realizes that he cannot overtake this Goblin and will eventually lose its trail. He and Ron decide to go back to the inn and make a plan with the rest of the party.
The assembled party discusses how to chase down this Goblin and were about to set out when Ymari suggested they should talk to the captain and take the ship. After a short trek to town they reach the ship and climb onboard meeting these strange sailors with wide grey heads and large broad-shouldered bodies. They introduce themselves as Captain Horatio the Spelljammer, Lieutenant Philomina and Sergeant Maximilian. They're aboard the Spelljamming ship the Smiling Dragon. Having been briefed by Ymari about the psychic Goblins and their connection with the mindflayers and Rhulian they agree to chase this particular Goblin.
Geralt uses his magical sense of the goblin to help navigate and the ship starts to move rapidly with the scenery flying by but strangely no wind or movement is felt by the adventurers. Geralt yells stop when he senses the creature is right below them and vessel immediately comes to a full stop but nothing is felt by the party. He recasts his hunter's mark on the creature and they follow this creature quietly until it stops at a cave.
The party disembarks and goes into the cave. Bruise holds the creature down and ties it up. Torold casts a spell on him to calm him down and the Goblin become calm and relaxed. They interrogate it under a zone of truth and find out that they were gathering some shards of obsidian for their Gods, who appear to be mindflayers, and have taken the townsfolk captive as "sacrifices" on their orders. The Goblin didn't know what for but did reveal it's boss is a Goblin by the name of Ruxithid the Chosen, they're the called the Sawplees as well as revealing the location of their base. After a spell cast by Ymari and Fa-Medve, Bruise figures out that the name Sawplees means Goblin in Deep Speech, the language of the mindflayers.
They take the Goblin back on board the ship and set off towards the Goblin lair. When they arrive Bruise decides to interrogate the creature one more time and it tells them the base is a fortress with traps and hundreds of Goblins inside. They notice however that the Goblin has started mumbling under it's breath and it looks like it's talking to someone covertly. Having been caught he laughs one last time and explodes in a wave of psychic damage.
The party descends to the entrance of the mining outpost and they take Ymari with them. Once inside the cavern they find large obsidian double doors without any handles or markings of any kind. Fa-Medve notices a faint odour of sulfur in the air. Trix scouts around and finds a vent build into the cave walls where some steam is escaping from and he sees that they could squeeze through to the other side. After some close calls with Bruise and Torold getting stuck they all manage to get through this vent unharmed and arrive in a hot chamber with a pool in the center. Fa-Medve places Torold and Bruise in the small music box he bought on the ship.
Trix explores the walls of this chamber and finds a hidden door with a mechanism that leads into another room. There is horrid smell coming from the other side. They open it and find a latrine that is caked and filled with piles of filth. Trix lights a fire in the room and burns up all the sewer gasses and some of the party are a bit singed in the process.
They go through and Ron spies in the next room a group of sleeping Goblins. However when sneaking in the creatures are woken up and they engage the party in battle. Downing Trix and beating him to an inch of his life in the first few seconds however he is saved by Ron with a healing potion and manages to backup a little. The fight continues in the tight space and Trix takes his revenge with fireball leaving most of the creatures horribly wounded and quickly dispatched by the other party members.
