Session 2: Family Matters Report

General Summary

Fleeing the den before others could find them, the crew found a tavern while everything blew over. Dark and smelly, with a floor that was more rot than wood, the space was old and decrepit enough to not attract too many visitors. As more formal introductions were made, a pair of bootstrapper underlings arrived, having a heated argument in hushed tones. The half-elf of the two eventually slipped a note to a red-mustachioed dwarf - the only other patron in this establishment. As luck would have it, the decrepit hole known as the Blasted Board was the exchange point for whoever had poisoned the den, and the patrons were part of the ploy.   With a fair bit of charm and bluster, Kharis and Varitan found their way to the table of the dwarf, doing their best to nonchalantly acquire the slip of paper. With the note out of sight, Varitan pulled the tried and true "spill and frisk" method, "accidentally" dumping his ale on the dwarf, and frisking him while attempting to pat him dry. Through supreme deftness, he was able to both locate the note squirreled away in a sleeve, and acquire it without notice.   As the dwarf left to carry out his orders, and the half-orc that remained from the pair of bootstrapper underlings became suspicious, the crew felt they had overstayed their welcome, and left to tail the dwarven man to his destination.     The note had mentioned the docks, but not what part of the docks, so the four split into groups of two, with Varitan and Amelia heading south to the Green Gate, and Kharis and Payne heading straight east through the shipyard and merchant's district. Understandably wary about walking through deep bootstrapper territory (especially with a high-born lumaer spellblade in tow) Varitan and Amelia climbed to the rooftops above, using one of the long metal tubes that ran along the waterfront. A means of cooling the foundries using the ocean. Below, Kharis and Payne searched for the dwarf, only catching glimpses of him as they approached the waterfront. They lost him in a crowd gathered at the point between the docks and the warehouse district, where a man on a platform barked propaganda and handed out what appeared to be bread.   From above, the sound of scraping metal and hollow percussion, as Varitan's foot plunged through the structure roof of the metal tunnel. Their cover blown, Amelia watched as Varitan tossed a glass jar of powdered red tear down into the crowd, creating a diversion. Payne and Kharis used the madness to escape through to the far side of the crowd, holding their breath to avoiding the effects of the potent (and potentially poisoned) drug. With the crowd distracted, both parties ran deeper into the warehouse district of the docks, Amelia and Varitan from above, Kharis and Payne from below.
