Session 1 : Shadows of the Past Report
General Summary
INTRODUCTION
In the world of Lyceia, on the continent of Alamar, in the country of Felldoran, in the small port town of Everkeep Harbor… Roughly 100 years ago, the continent of Alamar and, more likely, the entire world of Lyceia found itself in peril. Unbeknownst to most of the free peoples of Lyceia, a plot was enacted after centuries of planning by the god of lies and secrets, Vecna, to once again inhabit a physical form to subjugate the masses and cover the world in darkness to please his ends. This was forseen by the gods Pelor, Mellandra and Kord, who had a plan of their own. A god would no doubt necessitate another god to stand against him, right? Vecna, in his treachery had planned for this and before his defeat in the battle of the gods nearly 1400 years before, Vecna trapped half of Pelor’s soul, wounding and rendering him unable to stand against Vecna in his return to power. Pelor’s wife Mellandra, goddess of life and nature, with the help of others whom she trusted, recruited those who would end the plot. A group of unlikely adventurers, later known as the Wayfaring Strangers, found themselves pitted against a god. These heroes overcame an onslaught of aberrations, demons, undead and the corruption of other humanoids and were able to break the seal on Pelor. The final showdown with Vecna proved a conquerable challenge for the Strangers. With the help of a newly restored Pelor, Vecna was once again sealed away. The Wayfaring Strangers became heroes, who became legends, who became the stories that you tell your children before bed (the unsavory deeds of course being left out of the writings). Your characters know these stories all too well, many of you being direct descendants of the Strangers. Some of you are proud of your lineage and others are somewhat disillusioned by the parts that are left out of the tales. All of you, however, found yourselves the recipient of a mysterious summons addressed to you with an unfamiliar seal. The message was simple enough, “Everkeep Harbor. The Owlbear Inn. The third anniversary of the Day of Destined Death.” Initially, several of you didn’t take it seriously, until you considered how the letters found you with very few people knowing where you should be. The summons was not signed, but when you tried to push it from your mind, it pushed its way right back. Some of you even tried to dispose of the letter only to find it in unexpected places, and others still found that the paper could not be burnt. On top of these strange occurrences, you also began to have strange dreams, night after night, and unlike most dreams, which are easily forgotten, these dreams seemed to burrow deep within your minds. The dreams differed, but there was always a central focus on the five moons of Lyceia, and a terrible force lurking deep underneath the world. Eventually, if only to be rid of the nagging feeling and the persistent dreams, each of you found yourselves making plans to travel to Everkeep Harbor. And so the night has arrived. Some of you have been here for a few days and others are just arriving. Rakmar and Leo recognized each other right away and have spent a couple of days swapping tales and catching up. Soon, Karisha arrived and joined in the fun, not having seen the boys since their youth. Aldrina and Talon are fresh off of the boat (Durg’s of course) and are just entering the Owlbear. An early snow is gently falling as the second sun falls over the far side of the mountains. The inn is somewhat lively at this hour, the smell of stew and sounds of tales and music saturate the air. For the town that marked the start of the Wayfaring Strangers’ adventures, Everkeep Harbor has recovered well.SESSION REPORT
Talon and Aldrina arrived in Everkeep Harbor on Durg's ship and checked in at the Owlbear Inn on the specified night. Rakmar, Karisha and Leo, who had arrived a few days early to allow for inclement weather, were already somewhat comfortable in the common room. Soon, the five recipients of the summons made contact with each other and were considering the implications. They noticed a well put-together older woman, who was keeping a watchful eye on the group. After the inn began to clear out, the woman, named Seraphina Mornhaven, came to their table and began to speak with them. While she was not the author of the summons, she had been sent to meet them and discuss very important matters. She prophesied of a terrible calamity that would befall Lyceia. She arranged to meet the party outside the inn at midnight after tasking Karisha with procuring Durg's ship. Karisha's efforts to gain access to the ship proved futile against Durg's insight. As the awaited hour drew near, a horrendous sound was heard from outside the inn, and the entire building shook from it's force. Several cracks and tears had formed, and hordes of demons came forth to raze the town. Amidst the chaos, Leo recognised a familiar voice crying out; the voice of Serphina Mornhaven. The party rushed to her side and tried to help her face the onslaught of demons, but she sent them away, telling them to escape, and sending Durg a mental image of a loccation on a map, and an image of another port. The group escaped onto Durg's ship, along with other survivors from the town, and as they sailed away from Everkeep Harbor, they saw more villages and cities burning in the distance. The party intends to dock at Korloss city for supplies. A long journey awaits them...Rewards Granted
