Session 21B - Wisdom of the Ancients part 2 Report

General Summary

Ace makes his way through the floating mountains and eventually discovers the Elder Dragon Dalamadur the Ancient Earth Wyrm. They have conversations and it reveals to Ace that he is a creation of outer world invaders to defeat the Elder Dragons. In desperation, Dalamadur tells the mortal of his time a way to defeat the Invaders through a Soul Core similar to Ace's which caused the Great Calamity 500 years ago. It was in self imposed exile with the floating mountains as its prison and something sinister as its WardenWith a majority fo Elder Dragons gone extinct, only very few are left living in isolation including itself. After deep conversations on destiny, identity and purpose, Dalamadur leaves to ponder on its thoughts while Ace goes off exploring.   In the midst of exploring he realises something was watching him and the next day he invited it to have breakfast with him and Grim. The Huge Creature revealed itself to be Nergigante, Ace's Supposed Patron. He was chosen partially because it couldn't be in two places at once as the Watcher of the Floating Mountains and Keeper of Balance. It informs Ace that Maulnesh has already entered the Material Plane under the nose of his followers and because they know he is alone, are hunting him and will be arriving by nightfall. Without much fanfare, Ace starts building landscape traps with Improvised Explosive Devices he made with charges from his Planar Mortar and Alchemy skills. He makes 4 Volatile Explosives and rigs 2 of them to 2 of Charges and plants them on separate mountains. He ties one to one of his oversize arrows.   By nightfall he makes dinner for him and grim and paint themselves in Warpaint. Arriving on the landing where he first arrived were 4 Apostles, January the Bringer, June the Quiet, July the Loud and December pride of the Frost. Ace greets them and was surprise that they didn't recognise him. Using it to his advantage he speaks the truth on not knowing where this being they were looking for and they went their way. Ace then begins to make his way to his first hideout and as soon as the Apostles were over his pitfall, he shoots the IED. To his surprise it was a lot more powerful than he thought and shockwave almost blew him and Grim off the mountain. A cacophonous explosion rocked the mountain and buried the landing with rocks and dirt. Ace moved to his next hide and waited for a few minutes before checking for tracks. He found only one set but in a strange pattern that disappears further on. He moves to one of his further hide near the Crystal Forest and sits for an hour before moving back to the Landing to dig up the bodies. True enough there were only 3 bodies except January's. He brings the bodies back to the ruined village to burn them but not before looting them. He finds the dog tags of one his old party member, Abraham who died in the early part of the campaign. In retrospect aside from the December's Frostheart, June's Belt and July's Arms; the Baron realises just how powerful these Apostles were just from their lack of magic items. He sends Grim to search for January while he burns the bodies. In the Midst of the burning, Maulnesh materialised through the fire and attempts to make a pact with Ace. Not falling for it, Ace declines only for Maulnesh to rebuke with an open invitation to Genburg. He disappears only for Grim to appear and tell his master of his discovery. Rushing to his last know location, He finds the odd tracks led to the Crystal Forest. After some searching he thought he saw January and went to the last know spot he saw him only to get caught in a landscape trap - large crystals that were twice as heavy as Ace - that pinned him and Grim. January moves in to finish him only for Ace to rage and throw the Crystal in the Apostle's face. He gets grim out from under the Crystal and takes cover as January lays down a barrage of Eldritch Blasts to keep him pinned down.   Knowing that he's at a disadvantage fighting at range, he takes out Gurt's Great Axe and charges; engaging in a deathmatch against the head of the Apostles. Breaking his limit, Ace soundly defeats January with a cut to the head dealing 124 slashing damage.   returning to the village and dumping the body into the fire he already started he rests and the next day is affirmed by Nergigante that he chosen right this time and bestows upon Ace a set of Wings as part of his Champion status. Elated, he goes to speak with Dalamadur for the last time and thanks him for his wisdom. In return Dalamadur also thanks him and bestows its own gift; a set of scales and a large hook like bone structure. As he and Grim gather at the landing he now only comes to realisation that he doesn't know how to get him and Grim down from the Floating Mountains. Wether it was dumb or smart; He and grim leaped off with the poor beast constantly howling in fear as they nose dive. As close as they can get to the ground without killing them, Ace pours down a Potion of Flying into Grim who is confused and elated that he can now fly.
