Session 26: Trissa Priestess of Lolth

General Summary

Session 24 JUL 2019: There is a Priestess and four other Drow on the dais, enacting a web-encased sacrifice to the Spider Queen. Feng enacts Fire Plan Leeroy, and runs into the room, heroically! Gnosh casts a Fireball at the crowded enemy while they are still bunched together on the dais. The four lesser Drow are hit, some suffering more than others from the scorching inferno. The Priestess begins to chant, ominously. Fizzy, flanked by Akira, rushes into the temple and takes cover behind the first pillar in the southern row. Lily takes a shot through the temple door and skewers a Drow. Det casts Sacred Flame, further damaging the Drow closest to the door. Lorin, following the pattern, sends two Eldritch Blast tendrils at the same target. With this combined volley of fire, all four of the accompanying Drow are dead heaps of meat.   Without warning, lightning arcs from the base of the dais to hit Gnosh and Lorin, causing obvious damage. Gnosh casts a huge Wall of Fire along the stairs at the top of the dais, burning the Priestess a bit. Suddenly, most of the temple is plunged into an impenetrable magical Darkness! Fizzy, Feng, and Lily flail around a bit, coping with the blindness, before Det casts a whopping Dispel that restores the light. From the area of the burning Wall of Fire, some screeches of pain tells the party that we are still scoring some damage against our adversary.   However, our elation is short-lived, as three giant Spiders leap from the flames and start chewing on Det and Feng! Feng takes some chewing damage, but resists being poisoned. Fizzy gets blapped with a nasty goop of webbing, immobilizing her. One spider shoots an Acid Splash at Gnosh, who is chemically burned while running out of the acid cloud. The Priestess attempts to cast something, and is Counterspelled by Det. Fizzy heals Gnosh for some of the acid damage he just suffered and orders Akira to go bite some spiders. Feng, invigorated by the return of the light, heroically kills one of the spiders. Lily shoots the spider closest to her. Det, starting his turn in the Acid Cloud, takes some fumey damage, then runs out and swings at the nearest spider, killing it. One spider left!   Lorin moves in, using the southern pillars for cover, and fires off two Eldritch Blasts at the remaining spider, frying it with hellish fury. Underneath Det, a black circle with protruding grabby tentacles erupts! Feng is caught, but the rest of us succeed in dodging the effect. As it strikes, a Demon appears in our midst, taking control of Gnosh!   Gnosh moves towards the dais! Gnosh attempts to Charm Feng, who successfully resists. Fizzy cuts her way free of the webs that bound her, and Akira attempts to bite the waxy poop Demon. Lily, against her better judgment, starts moving into the temple to start getting some good shots on the Boss. Lorin shifts position to the north of the south row of pillars, and spears the Poop Demon with one Eldritch Blast, scorching its hide.   As Det is trying to duck and weave through the southern pillars, a volley of Magic Missiles finds him and strikes with extreme prejudice. Right next to Feng, the Poop Demon transforms into one of the giant Spiders and attacks Feng! Feng dodges these attacks, while shouting the battle cry of his people, “You’ve heard of us, vile fiend!” Gnosh, still under remote control, casts a hard-hitting Lightning bolt at Lorin. The Priestess, by now thoroughly pissed off, charges at Det, swinging her war mace. With a mighty blow, she crushes Det to the ground and he falls unconscious! Fizzy, distraught at the felling of a friend, casts Healing Word on Det and revives him. With malice aforethought, she also offers the Priestess an argument from Reason, which strikes home. Akira bites the spider demon. Feng absolutely clobbers the spider demon, further damaging it, but it stays up and fighting! Lorin puts a couple of arrows into it, and yet it fights on! Det vampirically attacks the PRiestess, healing himself a bit, and also maces her in the groin, then moves away. Lorin heals herself.   A giant lightning bolt slams into Lorin, Fizzy, and Lily, doing massive damage and knocking Lorin and Fizzy unconscious! Gnosh is coming out of his state of thrall, while Feng and Akira kill the demon-turned-Spider. With one hit point left, Fent rushes to the Priestess and unleashes a flurry of desperate attacks. Lily moves into place and skewers the Priestess with a flurry of arrows! With the end of the fight in sight, and some party members sown, now is the time to pull out all of the stops, and the party is rising to the challenge!   Det comes out of Invisibility and casts heals on both Fizzy and Lorin, bringing them both back into the fight! However, a Poison cloud knocks Fizzy and Lorin right back down. In her turn, Lorin succumbs to the Poison cloud, and Det does as well. Gnosh casts an empowered Chromatic Orb, which hits but does not kill. Things are looking bad for our heroes! Tune in next week! [A long IRL break transpires.]   Meanwhile, at the Legion of Doom. . .
