Session 199 - Aqueous Encounters

General Summary

25^th to 30^th of Nolus (First Month of Spring) 724TR

The story so far

Jolanta, and her trusty bodyguard Blaine, are agents of the mysterious Order of the White Hand, hunting down unscrupulous mages and covering up magical mishaps.
Jolanta accompanied by the Priest Otho, have destroyed the undead, dwarf killing warlock, Rantucci. Now they plan to return home but first, they have a few loose ends to deal with.

This is the continuation of Session 197 - Destruction of a Warlock.

Location - Dygr River and Izora Mines near Kabloq.

Part 1 - River Trolls

Jolanta is concerned about the two trolls the party encountered a week ago. Believing that these monsters are a hazard to wayfarers, she decides to eliminate them. After some searching Blaine locates them lurking in a nearby stream, close to a small ford.

The trolls prove to be quite a handful, tearing into Blaine's armor while Otho has to use all of his divine healing to keep the party conscious. Eventually, the vicious ivashu are destroyed after Jolanta deduces the combination of magical energy damage types required to keep them from regenerating.

Part 2 - The Wreck of the Sentinel

When the characters approach Lake Benath they soon spot the wreck of the Sentinel, a pilgrim ship. Jolanta was informed that an artifact, the Jade Surgath Figurine, was lost on this vessel, and the Church of Ilvir has offered a reward for its recovery.

Grabbing a large log, the adventures wade out into the lake towards it. Around 500-ft away, this wreck appears as a small island partially covered by vegetation. On it is perched over a dozen Scurgath or Dragon Birds. When they spot the characters and swoop in, Jolanta uses Water Breathing, and the heroes drop underwater. The Scurgath can't swim well and fly away, hunting less frustrating prey.

Below the water level, the characters enter the damaged vessel through a wide break in the hull. More hungry ivashu lie in wait, swarms of the piranha-like Hygith. Their bites draw blood and the swarm enters a terrifying frenzy. Eventually, despite being covered in small wounds, the characters prevail, driving the predators away.

With the ravenous hazards eliminated, Jolanta methodically searches the shipwreck. She uncovers a wealth of minor treasures and trinkets, but most notably in a hidden compartment at the bottom of a ruined chest, she detects a magic artifact. The Jade Surgath Figurine, shaped in the form of a dragon bird. Later she discovers that a devoted worshiper of Ilvir can use this to gain the power of echolocation. Sadly none of the trio worship this strange god to be able to gain any benefit.

Location - City of Tashal in the Kingdom of Kaldor.

Part 3 - Back in the Big City

The following month the heroes have returned home to the City of Tashal safely.

They returned the Jade Surgath Figurine to its rightful owner and received a generous reward.

During her last mission, Jolanta took the opportunity to examine the mysterious Chamor's Egg in great detail, and donates the records of her investigation to the archives of the local church of Save K'nor, the Vault of Kelapyn-Anuz. The priests are so impressed with her work they invite her to present he findings at the next Hasern ceremony. This religious ritual is more like a study session and Jolanta's presentation is well received by the priests and the faithful. The church now owes Jolanta a favor, and the studious wizard decides to attend more such rituals when invited.
