Session IV Report

General Summary

Symbol for the Calling of the True Five Ritual

Isn't Tiamat Norros' ex?   Acolyte
The session picks up with Acolyte continuing to describe the main room that houses the cultists and the five dragon wyrmlings. After gaining a good understanding of the main ritual room, the party decides to barge into the house in front of them.
It looks like a normal door.   Good, this is a normal shovel!   DM and Matt as Greg breaks into the house
While Greg tries to break down the unlocked door with a shovel, Pelos proposes, saying that marriage will help one member of their party stay safer and share damage if they end up in danger. This ritual (known to the wider world as the level 2 spell Warding Bond) involves the exchange of platinum rings.
This is what my mermaid girlfriend told me to do.   Pelos
The party notices a dust trail on the bookshelf next to the fireplace, where it seems one book has been removed and replaced multiple times. They remove the book and the fireplace lowers into the foundation of the house to reveal a secret tunnel, which they continue down.   The party comes to a door at the end of the hallway. It seems to be unlocked. However, despite their precautions (not many), the cultists in the library seem prepared for their entrance, having rigged the door with an arrow trap.   After defeating six of the cultists, the party explores the library and interrogates Vondyl, one of the cultists. Through these methods, they learn that this group (the Calling of the True Five, which was originally the Cult of the Scaled Tyrant) is trying to summon Tiamat out of her eternal prison, assuming they will be given a large reward if they succeed. Simultaneously, Acolyte and Pelos, the newlyweds, are having an intimate moment where Pelos finally learns what fire is and ~why does it, what's the word? buuuuuurn~

In addition, the library and the cult itself has quite the fascination with Norros, and is even using his writings as the basis for their summoning ritual. Norros did write about a theoretical way of breaking Tiamat from her "prison of torment" (his translation from the ancient Draconic Elegy of the First World), as well as theories about the history between Tiamat, Bahamut, and the Ruby dragon (Sardior), though he never intended them to be used in this way. (Also, as he mentioned many times, they were doing it wrong).   Finally, the library contained a large map of Kuspire, marked with the symbols also seen in the "crown" in the ritual room. It seems that the symbols represent artifacts they are trying to locate throughout the world, one of which is nearby where the Cursed Daggers [add hyperlink] were found in the mountains prior to the campaign. Each of the symbols represents one artifact essential for freeing Tiamat--a dagger, a book, a pendant, a goblet, and one which is debated. The main contenders for this symbol include a person, air, spirit, and magic itself; Vondyl personally believes that it represents a life given to Tiamat.   Interestingly, none of the cultists, nor the research in the library, seems relevant to time magic.
Wait, is Tiamat still alive?   Hold on, let me text her! Acolyte and Norros
After tying up the rest of the cultists and each taking a robe to impersonate them (except Norros, who will continue as himself), the party leaves the library to reach another long hallway. When they encounter a pressure plate, Norros and Lark fall in, but Greg uses Rope Trick to help them climb up. Before the rest of the party crosses, however, Pelos suddenly realizes how to reset and, more importantly, disable the trap to allow the rest of the party to walk across unimpeded, despite never having held such knowledge before. Finally, the party comes to a long, heavy bar, keeping a door shut.
