Session I Report

General Summary

Like all good stories, ours begins with Toxic by Britney Spears. The traditional ballad rouses our heroes from their rest, enveloping them in preparations for the Dies Anguingenarum Adventus or, in Common, The Day of the Dragon’s Arrival in the city of Wairwood. A handful of them already know each other—Lark and Norros are staying together in Norros’ townhouse near Pruimont, and they both know Acolyte from previous interactions. Gregory and Iris meet on the caravan from Pruimont to Wairwood proper, being joined shortly after by Norros and Lark. Meanwhile, Pelos and Acolyte are having a riveting conversation in the Smiling Turtle, a local tavern, as the Triton learns what a dragon is for the first time.

Dragons are like… fertilizer for our magical seaweed.   It’s not the literal dragon; it’s the metaphorical idea of a dragon.
Pelos Namarath and Acolyte
After clogging up foot traffic for a few minutes, the party decides to help set up for the festivities—Lark, Acolyte, and Gregory go to set up the performance stage, Pelos watches Lils’ two children (Evie and Hamlet), and Norros and Iris are very unhelpful as they compare notes and complain about people getting history wrong. The stage setup is fairly easy, though Gregory does mock the decor and give an organizer sixty gold pieces to improve it, earning him an immediate VIP (very important pig) pass. Pelos is excellent at entertaining the kids, who are very excited to see the show. Norros learns from Iris the updates in his field of study, including that evidence has been found for gemstone dragons, something that had been theorized but never proven when he left, and that Norros’ works had inspired another dragon cult, this one far more violent than the first. After sending Ayre Sylnala an angry text (read: sending stone message), the party reunited at the stage.
Our party is made up of four scholars and two charming dumbasses.

The annual production to re-enact the first ever Day of the Dragon’s Arrival is put on by local schoolchildren. One of the children narrates as a handful of others act out the story—five mages, each in control of a different element, were strong and powerful enough to try and imbue their magic into beasts. They each formed a creation out of clay and, once doused with magic, their creations came alive to form the first five Chromatic dragons.   As the child playing the red dragon emerges onto stage, a bigger threat arrives from the skies. An actual red dragon, enormous and snarling, rips the town stage in half before breathing fire across the crowd, its eyes alight with fury. As flame envelops the crowd, Lark is somehow able to avoid death once more, Pelos takes no damage despite his front row seat, and Gregory is incinerated immediately. Before any of the players are able to fight back, their vision goes dark…   And Toxic rings in their ears once more. The day has begun anew.
It’s the Day of the Coming of the Dragon! If we tell them that the dragon is coming, they’ll just say NO SHIT!!
Norros Etoris
The party quickly realizes that no one, besides the six of them, has any memory of… yesterday? today? uh… no one, besides the six of them, has any memory of the festival. They try to convince as many people as they can to go home, though many do not listen since, you know, there’s a big city-wide party happening. The characters briefly discuss their options and decide to try and investigate throughout the day, especially since Norros recognizes the creature as an Ancient Red Dragon, one whose name he does not know. Iris’ Detect Magic spell burns up her parchment, while Norros tries to call Ayre for backup, but there’s some sort of magical interference between the sending stones. At this, the party decides to split up to cover more ground—Acolyte, Lark, and Gregory are going to the stage, Norros and Iris are going to interrogate the town, and Pelos is going to keep a watch over the children and see if perhaps they heard something.
