Session 16: The Powderkeg City Report

General Summary

Recap: In the morning following the previous day's aftermath, the party boarded a ferry for Blasterpeck, set to be about ten days of travel. The ride itself was mostly uneventful, save for an attempted apology from Lia to Sam. Lia tried to reconcile what had happened, and pushed for Sam to prioritize trusting each other. Sam however, was still hurt from the accusations against her, as well as Lia's physical affront, so she rejected the apology. After ten days, the party arrived at Blasterpeck, launched into a dramatic change of scenery, where explosive mishaps were commonplace, and most folk only stood at about knee-height. Lost in this sprawling city, they were approached by a rat-like critterfolk, who beckoned them to speak with him in a nearby alley. The critterfolk explained he was also a member of the Guidewind, and that he'd been told to help them get acquainted with the city. At the mutual flashing of each other's emblems, they felt like this rat-person was to be trusted, and allowed him to take them on a small tour of the city.   The critterfolk, who introduced himself as Roscoe, eventually brought the party to Blasterpeck's main claim to fame, the Inner-City, a marvel of construction where an entire city was built within a manufactured cave, and its main castle sits upside-down in its center. It was decided that the exploration of the Inner-City could wait though, as the party wanted to get started with investigating the demon problem. Roscoe lead them to the base of "The Spiral," a railway built for traveling to and from the castle via explosive propulsion. With most of the party in a daze due to the abrasive method of travel, they finally got to meet with the Viscount who'd called for their aid, Polpop Briben. Viscount Briben was very accommodating to the party's arrival, and began to regale them with his evidently biased claims that the source of the demon attacks was a prolific gang within the city, the Rollriggers. At the questioning of this assertion, the Viscount grew quite agitated, which caused the party to at least humor his accusation before investigating their prime suspects, the Rousseau Foundation.   At the base of operations for this suspected gang, the party discovered that this group seemed to be full of unsavory gnomes armed to the teeth in firearms. They were able to get a meeting with this gang's leader, a gnome going by the moniker of "Pops." Erika stayed behind while the rest of the party surrendered most of their weapons. Meeting with the gang boss, Pops seemed very reluctant to share what he knew of the demon attacks, but was willing to offer information should the party help him first. Apparently the Rollriggers themselves have been dealing with a demon problem in their own headquarters, having to seal it off before too many could spill out. The party accepted this deal, and ventured into the deeper reaches of the Rollrigger headquarters in the hopes of figuring out this fiendish mystery.
