Session 6: Below the Tomb! Report
General Summary
6th of the 5th, 1489. 6PM, 31 green kobolds.
Last session! The group started off asking Diderius some questions.
- The Manual of Quickness of Action, the knowledge within permanently increasing one's own abilities. His vision was directed to the lair of his father, Qindricar.
Naesimaar - How to raise her dragon into the side of good. She was shown two visions, split amongst her consciousness - One of her coddling the dragon, of giving it its every desire, of treating it as well as any pet could hope for. Another of her training the dragon, of giving tasks and commands, of rewards for work, of bringing it with her into battle.
Mordan - How to defeat Tiamat. She was shown a vision of the five Dragonmasks. The White and the Blue crumbled away, leaving the green, the red and the black.
Quilvayla - A way she could obtain an Oathbow, a weapon that can mark and eliminate a target once a day. Her vision was pulled away to the elves of the High Forest, where each of their borderguards wields such a fearsome weapon.
Violet - For ways to better experience and work with the Ethereal realm. Diderius gave her no visions, but instead asked if she could stay for a week of training.
Having asked their questions of Diderius, the party explored south, trying to find Arianna Black, the tiefling who had entered and left in a matter of hours. They didn't find her, but they -did- find the two members of her party - The tall green one and the short not-green one - seated at a table sharing an enormous chicken stolen from a dead kobold - one of Mordan's ones. The table of folks - one half-elf, one dwarf, one human and their leader, a gnome - introduced themselves as from the Cult of the Dragon. The gnome himself was of the rank of Dragonsoul, just one step below the Wyrmspeakers themselves, and had a nasty tic and nastier habits. They had indeed accompanied Varram all this way, who was seeking the Pool of Divination. They had established two rooms - one at the well, where they intended to rest, and one at the dining hall, where they spent most of their days eating, playing dice & card games, and waiting out either Varram's return, or until their rations ran low enough they'd have to return to Boareskyr and declare him dead. They cut the party a deal - If Varram is alive, bring him back to them and they'll pass over half of the treasure they've collected from inside this Tomb.
Leosin's Adventurers left the table with a little surprise laid out by their untrusting bunny -- an Arrow trap in the hallway leaving the area tuned specifically to target only the Gnomish Dragonsoul.
They continued on back through Diderius' Tomb, a potion of clairvoyance resting atop his sarcophagus. Attempted conversation with Diderius was met with silence. Down they went, through the secret passageway and around to the right, where they found a bridge over a massive chasm, over sixty feet deep. The party's nightvision showed six threats -- at the very end of the bridge, two lizardmen guarding two yuan-ti with snakeheads, ready and in position. In the middle of the bridge, two more lizardmen. The adventurers leapt into action, Qillik springing up and over the battlefield to land behind the enemies, shoving one of the lizardmen off the bridge. Several good shots from the rangers with the blessings of Naesimaar felled a lot of the enemies, while the cleric's hammer rained blows onto the heads of the yuan-ti. Mordan also landed solid blows with his heavy crossbow before attempting to cross the bridge, but the slick moss covering the bridge's stonework almost sent him tumbling off the side. Naesimaar's blessing brought solid rock back under Mordan's feet, as the moss parted under the direction of the walking blessing of the Treefather.
One of the yuan-ti ran for help when it was clear all was lost, making it down to a lair of snakes and armors. Snakes poured in their thousands into the room as Qillik and Quilvayla chased him below, felling him but a moment too late, as the snakes wound their way into the armors, animating them. Thinking quickly Qillik nabbed one of the armors before it was fully activated and dragged it, a host swarm of snakes trailing after it in desperation, and threw it off the bridge, clattering across the ground. The snakes were slain before they could get down to animate the armor with the help of Violet.
Meanwhile, at the frontline, Mordan and Naesimaar had caught back up. Naesimaar suffered nasty bites as the snakes surged over her, and was forced to flee as the horrific grip of the animated armor surged forward, biting with still more snakes.
And then Mordan arrived. Violet's ethereal arrows had no effect on this armor, but with its innate weakness to Adamantine, Mordan ditched his weapons and clanged his Adamantine Gauntlets together. Laying into the armor with powerful blows, he sent snakes and armor pieces scattering across the entire room as Violet and Quilvayla finished off the last of the snake-swarm, scattering those not slain back to their hidey holes. Naesimaar murmured a prayer of healing over the party, healing many of the intense wounds they had suffered.
