Session 1: A Moment, 800 Years Ago Report

General Summary

Having gathered all together for the first time in ten years, the family one by one found themselves back within the orphanage. Some seemed almost identical to how they were years ago, but others were certainly much different; though all were given warm reception. As Mother Cybele began preparing a morning meal, everyone began recollecting their time away, and telling each other small stories of their travels. A few granted some gifts to Grandpa Ralph, who was grateful, though generally aloof. After Mother Cybele's meal, she left to get the cake for Grandpa Ralph, leaving everyone and him alone in the main room. A knock came from the door a short moment later, yet no further guests were expected to arrive. Grandpa Ralph left to go to the door, imposing against Audrey from doing so herself, and with an ominous remark, began to pull the door open. Grandpa Ralph was swiftly killed by the two new intruders to the home, and Mother Cybele rushed past everyone else to combat the assailants while also magically commanding everyone else to flee. As everyone rushed outside, no longer under Cybele's brief influence, they briefly bickered about whether to join the fray, or to keep running; with the eventual group decision being to continue their flight. Running to the well that Grandpa Ralph promised as safe, Avery quickly burst open the wooden planks covering the top of the well, and everyone jumped in.   Now in a strange chamber beneath the well that was considered to be forbidden during their childhood, everyone began to wonder what to do now, and what was going on back at the house. As they rushed to continue, hoping to squeeze their way though a crack in the wall of this chamber, Audrey saw a translucent owl making its way towards them, before casually perching on the ground. Running after it, an older tiefling gentleman was relieved to find the party, and assured them that he meant no harm; going so far as to heal the injuries they'd incurred so far. He explained that his name was Wanderer, an old friend of their parents', and was coming here to attempt to save them. He continued, showing them six translucent feathers and handing one to each of them. These feathers, he explained, would allow the group to travel through time to a point where they could safely escape. The use of these feathers had rules however, and after explaining them, Wanderer implored them to leave as quickly as possible while he tried his best to fight off the now impending attackers. After activating the feathers as instructed, the group found themselves in the same cave, though without the presence of Wanderer nor their assailants. Making their way through, the group encountered various dangers, fighting off spiders and rust monsters alike before finally emerging to the surface of a similar but still vaguely different world. Instructions left by Wanderer implored the party to continue westward, heading for Port Ducrest, but to avoid going there while within the future.   Travelling through the oddly sparse future version of the forest they grew up in, Zaya went ahead of the party in an attempt to stealthily scout ahead, but was apparently noticed by what she believed to be some form of Iridescenai Soldier. Having almost lost her life to a single shot, Zaya quickly activated the Feather of Icarus, causing everyone to return to the present. While still a few miles away, being in the same relative place and timeline as the ones that were after them was disconcerting to say the least, and so everyone rushed ahead to gain further ground towards Port Ducrest. After nearly a week of travel, and a few odd encounters, the party finally arrived, and began their search for the quickest ship out of there. Unfortunately enough though, there was only on ship in port, and it was one that wasn't well known. The cost of lodging on the ship was astronomical, and it seemed like they weren't taking any more workers on board. All hope of getting on legally would be lost if not for a local rumor of a small fortune recently stowed away within the city's castle. If the party could get ahold of that gold, they could feasibly board passage, and maybe even get out with a little extra for themselves. It seemed like they're not the only ones who know about the gold though, and other would-be thieves are plotting heists of their own to claim the fortune for themselves.
