Session 0.1: The Road of Trade Way Report

General Summary

As you travel along the broad, dirt road, you see a small cottage on the side of the road. It seems old and untended. As you draw closer, you also see a barricade stretching across the entire 50-foot width of the road. Two tall, broad-shouldered people stand in front of the barricade.

On closer inspection, one is a deathly pale Dwarf, and the other is a pale-skinned Tiefling.

The two figures look up at you and hoist their cudgels, practically in unison. The pair are dressed as members of the Waterdeep City Watch, and wear incredibly dirty and tattered uniforms. One, a male dwarf with a singed mustache, strides forward and holds out a hand to stop you. The other, a female tiefling with moonlight-pale skin and beady black eyes shouts: “Halt! In the name of the Watch, there’s a toll to pay. 10 gold per head, for use of this road. Pay the toll, or face justice.”

The Tiefling talks with confidence, but the perceptive note that something is off about their demeanor; as well as the toll demanded. It's much too high for the most trafficked road along the coast. To call their bluff, the dragonborn, Aurum, takes his military insignia and scrutinizes the pair, which seems to back them down. The dwarf shifts his demeanor, attempting to help the party with the barricade, but notices the Firbolg, Orion, peaking inside of the hut. Orion smells death and begins to alert the party, but the Dwarf shouts for his comrade, and combat begins. It begins and ends in a matter of seconds. The Dwarf, apparently named Rorrey, face down and dead in the dirt, and the Tiefling, Kendrei, disarmed and bleeding on the ground. She pleads for her life, and relunctantly, the party spares her, and she runs off into the woods that frame the road.
