Session 27: Attack on Utgard Tower Report
General Summary
The session began with the party leaving the keep of the Castle Quarter and Aes finding a letter on her horse. The party decided to head to the home of Lenna and Blaine to speak about stopping the breeding grounds of the monstrosities once and for all. Zeal spoke with Kalki and gifted her some wood working tools. They met with Galliard, who told the party he would get his things ready for when they set off and meet them outside the northern gate. Aes then told the party that the letter she received was from the Draconians they met a while ago, and that they wanted to speak with the party. When they arrived at the abandoned warehouse by the Dock Ward, they spoke with the golden Draconian who spoke of an abandoned watch tower north of the city, and that a batch of Warpstone was to be delivered to the Iron Legion soon. He gave them a device which contained trace amounts of Warpstone, since Warpstone can only be destroyed by Warpstone itself. He also handed the party a familiar face: The Scaled King, Diedrich, who appeared to have been tortured since he had his horns severed, an eye gouged out and multiple fingers missing. He was unconscious and the golden Draconian told the party that they could do whatever they desire with him, as he did not care. The party woke him up, asking him many questions, figuring out they were supposedly slave to the Iron Legion and a Dragon was kept captive beneath the undercity to keep creating an endless swarm of Draconians, built for war. They were also told some information about one of the Unnumbered Knights; Chalice, who apparently was a Zealous Cultist of the Iron Master, and built a cult just for him. Diedrich also mentioned the name of the golden Draconian, which is Yolon. The party then headed off to Utgard Tower, bringing Galliard with them where they snuck towards the tower and attempted to infiltrate it and place the device where the batch of Warpstone was located. Orion scouted the place with his Owl familiar, which found many Draconians defending the goods. The party devised a plan for Orion, Zeal and Geraldt to sneak around the tower and stealthily place the device without having to fight anyone. During this time, Aes will release the horses, which included her draft horse, Zenrei, and Galliard will wait in hiding to cause a distraction. The plan began and Orion casted a sleep spell which put one guard to sleep, giving time for Geraldt to climb up the tower using his magical rope of climbing and place the device. He got in without being noticed, but to get out he casted misty step and was heard by the other guard, who tried to stop him but before he could do anything, disappeared. Soon enough, the device was thrown out of the window, and making a louder and louder noise, indicating it was indeed activated. Aes then began her part of the plan, but was noticed by the three Draconians outside, who were confused at who she was. Galliard then shouted as a distraction, bringing two out of the three Draconians towards him. Zeal and Geraldt made their way back up the tower post-haste, where they killed the two guards and placed the device down once again. Within a few seconds the noise from the device become louder and louder, and Orion, Geraldt and Zeal fled swiftly back towards Aes with the horses, but weren't fast enough as the tower erupted in a huge green mushroom cloud which devastated everything around it, injuring the party. The party soon left the scene with another horse to their group and made their way to Dreisdunkel Mine. When they entered, they were met by a huge cavern with a stone bridge leading across. This place was glistening with waterfalls and exotic fish bounding out of the water beneath. Further in they entered the mine proper where they used a minecart to begin filling it with barrels of Kobstone. They encountered a yellow ichor creature which fell from the ceiling to attack them, which split with hits from slashing sources. Two insect like creatures with armoured exoskeletons joined the fight, destroying Aes' shield by rusting it into uselessness. They then encountered a single draconian who spotted the party, who tried to alert the others in the mine but Geraldt charmed him and the Draconian greeted him as a friend. He was told to lie on the floor for a "Surprise" but was butchered by the party. The party then cleared the rest of the mine, encountering another Warpfire thrower which they had not seen since they were in the sewers.
