Session 1: Coskurt ain't so bad

General Summary

Jovakna/Helvakna, Stillspring 27-28, Year 254 (Rodian Calendar)   Liaueld is sitting in the Rat's Nest, literally the first tavern she saw on entering Coskurt. The place is rowdy, she gets a room and a drink but there doesn't seem to be much chance of supper. Morkella returns from her adventure in the library and seeing how the tavern is, immediately leaves. Curious about this person and not having much else to do, Liaueld follows Morkella from the tavern.   Morkella heads out of town. Liaueld follows her, stopping to buy 3 meat & veggie wraps from a street vendor. She takes a seat on some rocks near where Morkella has stopped. After a bit, Morkella notices her and Liaueld offers her a wrap. The two begin talking, and eventually Liaueld invites Morkella to see the town with her. The two have a fun evening involving funnelcake and retire, agreeing to meet at the notice board in the morning.   There are two notices on the notice board, one for a kidnapping and one for a mystery!  

Kidnapping: Missing child, child is in danger and unknown kidnapper, child not in city - involves travel. Mystery unresolved: Mystery has to do with the standing stones, but to resolve it would involve travel upriver. The mystery might involve a cult., and with a religion check Liaueld knows about the cult: it’s a cult to Drotha, god of darkness and secrets. This cult practices human sacrifice. “Do you recognize these symbols? Bring information to the authorities.” Lia recognizes the markings that were on the standing stones. We go to the authorities, the town guard. We find the Captain of the Guard, a hobgoblin, tall and lean, Captain Qienene. Friendly, a connector, likes people. We tell him what we know. He gives us 5 gp each and offers the other 90 if we take them to the stones.   We agree, to leave in the afternoon and go find the family of the missing child. Captain tells us the family is wealthy and we should ask for more money.

  The girls head to see the family of the missing child, meeting their secretary/personal assistant/family manager, Torgun. Torgun is a seven foot tall trans orc (she/her). They learn that the child is at the home of a family member, out in the woods, and can probably be returned without much trouble. The kidnap victim, Laurent, is about 9 years old.   Liaueld and Morkella head out of town to track down this relative.  

We approach: Are there traps? Yes! A DC 13 log trap. Lia checks for traps and fails!

  Liaueld takes damage from a log trap, but the girls continue. They spot Isabelle, the kidnapper, near her sheep paddock to the east side of her modest home. Morkella circles the house to the west and Liaueld walks forward to try to persuade Isabelle to give up the child without a fight.   She refuses. Violence erupts! A swarm of ravens attacks Liaueld, Morkella attacks Issabelle.   After a brief and intense fight, Liaueld and Morkella defeat Isabelle. Morkella knocks her out and we bring her into her cabin, patching her up as best we can. On the way back to town, Morkella plays "I spy" with Laurent and even gets Liaueld to play along. They get paid 75 GP each on delivering Laurent to Torgun.   After the job, Liaueld takes Morkella shopping for some city clothes, buying her a nice outfit (description?). Liaueld buys herself a short jacket, pairing that with a crop top and a pair of loose pants with slits on the side, although of course no force on Thouia will part her from her boots.
