    Jackson Elias's lawyer for years. Also manages Elias's finances and carries out administrative functions whenever his client goes traveling the world in search of a story. Acts as the executor of Elias's estate and reader of the will

    Lives off his families wealth. Thinks of himself as a scholar in the old style.
  • Erica Carlyle (26)
    Sole heir to the Carlyle fortune since her brothers death. Now manages the family interests. Is single.

    Student at Miskatonic University. Daughter of Professor Anthony Cowles. Sees herself as her fathers protector

    On death row. Falsely accused. Organized a group in Harlem to investigate the murders
  • Jackson Elias
    A globetrotting writer specializing in exposes of death cults and other strange organizations. He gets wind of some mysterious scheme, but cultists chase him down and kill him.
  • Joe Corey (37)
    Erica Carlyle's bodyguard. Carries a huge .45 revolver and brass knuckles. Remains close to Erica and acts as enforcer for her
  • Jonah Kensington (48)
    Chief editor and owner of Prospero House. Published most of Elias's books and was a friend to Jackson.
  • Lt. Martin Poole (43)
    As a long-serving homicide detective working out of Precinct 7a in Chelsea, Lt. Poole has seen the worst New York has to offer. Even so, the murder of Jackson Elias has shaken him; partly because of its brutality and partly because of its similarity to a series of murders he believed had already been solved (An Innocent Man, page 145). Poole could be a suitable replacement should any of this investigators die in the course of this chapter.

    Professor of Anthropology and from Australia. Daughter Ewa is with him. Has a hobby on collecting strange tales that has gotten him in trouble with Miskatonic University.

    Junior crime reporter with the New York Times. Covered a string of murders similar to Jackson's death. Hopes to exonerate Hilton Adams.
