Session 9: Circle above Rundkjøring pt 1

General Summary

The goblin in the funny pink dress looks Smog in the eyes. It smiles, as it starts talking. It's a classic joke, about two goblins and a drunk ogre walking into a bar, but as the goblin is getting to the punchline, it notices the Bard is not amused. He stands there with a blank stare at his face. That can't be right? This joke is known to knock his fellow goblins out from laughing, being backed by a casting of Tasha's Hideous Laugher and all.   The goblin continues to speak, and lands the punchline perfectly.   Smog is still not laughing. He doesn't understand Goblin.

The heroes exit the Beholder's Lair and goes straight back to town to sell treasure and prepare for the journey north. On the way out of town, Malcer finds a hidden message from his friend Jean, asking them to seek him out in the city of Rundkjøring, which is 2-3 days travel north.   On the road, the party spots a goblin ambush, having a mimic disguised as a road sign. The ambush is defeated and the gang reaches Ølheim and decides to stay the night. At the inn, they meet the machine man from the Pottit Library. It has found the book, and is on the way back to its master, after getting some oil from the players. There's some heavy drinking this evening, and everyone except Talja oversleeps with a major hangover the next morning.   On the road, they meet a troll guarding a bridge. He lets everyone pass if they pay him 10cp each. Malcer manages to sneak past, but everyone else pays up. The next rest is Vindar, where the group stays at a rather fancy inn. There's a three course dinner, complete with porcelain plates and silver cutlery. During a game of cards, Malcer wins a few silver coins - and a silver knife, from some other guests.   The next day, Smog sees a glimpse of Hanefar in his mind. There's no doubt the mad priest is attempting scrying on the party, so they decide to be careful of what they say. As they get closer to Rundkjøring, they meet a traveller warning them against staying outside in Rundkjøring during full moon, which is tonight, as it seems Count Bjørnar Lupin is known to have a terrible temper around that time of month. The group enters Rundkjøring at dusk, hearing wolves in the distance as the full moon climbs up over the horizon.   At the Inn of the Howling Wolf, they learn Jean just left for Lupin's castle, seeking the council of his old friend, as they were both members of the same thieves guild at one point. The innkeeper, Ulf Vinther, is also a member of this guild, and seems to be very worried about Jean. His wife, Unni, gets the party alone, claims to be working for Ing'Soc and tells the party to go to the castle to confirm Jean's death. At the same time, Bendelormen, Fortvilelse's patron, speaks to him in riddles, telling him "the one who knows how to become a deity can be found if you follow the moon tonight". As Fortvilelse looks out the window, the moon appears just over Lupin's Castle.   Malcer finally tells the group his true name and intentions, and that he's planning to save his friend Jean's life. The party decides to go with Malcer to save Jean before its too late. They go up to Lupin's Castle, and are about to go through the main entrance...
