Session 24: The Bound Spirit Report

General Summary

Party starts out in camp. Some talking and general speaking happening. Leowulf attempts to make stew, which goes horribly wrong. Him and Kronlim become very sick. They leave at around noon. They move south until around dusk.

Marcarius sees a strange wooden form ahead of him, near the termination of a swampy tributary. He explores it, then goes back to report it. Flynt and Roy want to investigate. The three of them go back, see inside the cabin. They find two Sutanese corpses on the ground, looking rotted and emaciated. Their weapons lay on the planked floor. Crates and sorry sacks of nondescript food lie in the corner. Flynt finds some papers on a small table. He can't read the Sutanese dialect of Etalian, but he can make out the margin notes. They were mere explorers, charting the globe and recording what lay within.

Flynt and Roy have a talk over the night about the nature of Flynt's existence, immortality, and service to Ácolitus. "That's a pretty terrible deal" Roy says to Flynt, to which he responds "I have made a deal with Ácolitus, and I feel no qualms with my new position". Flynt still has internal feelings, but no physical senses or requirements beyond that. They talk about fighting Nezhar, and how defending Kronlim has been a major pain for Roy, physically speaking.

Flynt then speaks to Lord Inquisitor Hadrianus about many topics. The conversion of Marcarius Vex, fighting Nezhar, and other things.

The sickness and state of Kronlim and Leowulf worsens. They begin to lose overall physical wellness.

The party finds another of the Voladûr. Some Sutanese explorers are near it, and they speak with each other.

The return of Octavius, a wild looking, scruffy version of his old self. Octavius is tired. The bags under his eyes as well as the darkened pale of his face show that he has had many sleepless nights. No longer bald, Octavius now sports a ragged caveman style brown rag of hair and beard. upon the top of his head are many small scars. His left eye is dead, maimed from a gouging long ago. His hands and arms are worn and scarred, and his physique is widened with age.

Octavius was surprised when he heard Torvald was dead. He was angry when he heard about Yohn killing him. Then Marcarius told him that Vaern died, horrified to hear he exploded. At least he was told that Vaern saved the day.

Roy gets attacked by thorn demons, only Leowulf is fast enough to intervene. The two of them slay the monster.

Flynt and Inquisitor speak about plans for the night.

Roy speaks to Inquisitor about thorn demons, although the latter is unlearned on the subject.

Party takes quick baths with purified water from Octavius.

"I think that beard will get in the way of your redemption." says Marcarius to Octavius

Roy uses the stone to burn part of the thorn demon, making it crackle, bubble, split, and emit black smoke.

Party lingers and speaks on matters of religion and many other things. Marcarius departs when Leowulf begins to talk about Corgastor and his lost faith.

Great beam of light pierces through the sky from the Void, shooting to the surface and remaining there. Flynt, Hadrianus, and Typhon speak. The form of Typhon's soul is only Edmus, which is a weaker form, but a part of Typhon's soul no less. Hadrianus steals this portion and offers it to either Flynt, himself, or one of the other party members. Flynt chooses himself, and Hadrianus rams that portion into his chest. It leaves a burning imprint of his hand on Flynt's chest. That will hopefully give Flynt the power required to do away with Nezhar, who had been created by Typhon.

The two of them speak briefly after the fact, in which Hadrianus reveals that his motivation for following along with the party was a chance to acquire that remaining portion. He and Cynric had been too weak when they first fought Nezhar, but now things would be different, or so he hoped. Flynt was mixed in reception by this outright declaration of intention by Hadrianus, but the act was past. Explaining this to Ácolitus and gaining his good graces once more was his greater concern.

When the pair began to walk back, they were met by Roy, Octavius, Leowulf, and Kronlim. Marcarius and Yanis had chosen to remain in camp to defend it if malign forces were drawn by the torrent or light and sound. The four of them confront Hadrianus and Flynt on the matter. Denying everything was no longer an option, for the double fold reason that such a light show as occurred near Flynt before and that they were caught in returning. In response, the two of them promptly lied through their teeth. They claimed that they were communing with Ácolitus on how to defeat Nezhar, which wasn't entirely a lie. The party was skeptical at best. Flynt then told them about an "artifact" that may be found in Worthend to defeat Nezhar. The details of that item were incredibly sparse, nothing more than a hint of existence. That didn't rest well with the others, who asked about what it was or what plan was in place to retrieve it. Hadrianus and Flynt deflected the questions with vague descriptions of glowing weapons and other things. The party easily saw that something was amiss, though was unsure of what. They continued to ask questions, but the pair was steadfast. This brought tensions to the point of mutiny, but no blood was spilled. They agreed to talk about it later and slowly trailed to camp, suspicions heightened.
