Session 4: We're off to Find a Mushroom Report

General Summary

Where we pick up the threads. . .

The party finished their short rest in the cavern, the bodies and empty egg sacks of the Ankheg larvae drying in the far corner. The cave system was large, huge compared the size of the party sitting against the rocky walls. Careful to not announce themselves to what might be lurking about, Shadow casts Pass without a trace upon the party and scouts ahead, the others keeping just far enough behind him to maintain their stealth.   Not far along the tunnel they run into several Gas Pods and aside from a slightly dusting from one of the pods exploding, the party defeated four of them handily. Nefaria rushed in with a Scorching Ray and her Familiar, the spell was quite potent against the gas pods, and even her familiar's claws took care of them handily, however, the posion from the "pop" from the final pod was too much for the small Cat and it vanished in a puff of pink smoke to be returned at a later time.

Gas pods bear a disurbing resemblance to Beholders, but a DC 15 nature check confirms they are in fact a plant. Gas Pods, while not having much in HP, do explode upon death and unleash a spore cloud 20ft radius DC 15 con save or take 3d8 poison damage.

Notes
Aberrant Amoeba are tiny floating blobs of irridescent gel that are harmless unless touched in which case they will deal 1dmg necrotic and can do a melee attack to deal bludgeoning and 1 acid damage
They continued forward and ran into yet more creatures, this time, eleven Aberrant Amoeba. Shadow, disturbed and antsy because he didn't get to kill a gas pod, took the first attack and did some damage to the small iridescent creatures. Gimble took on several of them with his astral fists. Nedyra restrained five of them with entangling thorns. Nefaria pulled out her pepperbox, but sadly her ill-luck with mechanical devices struck and her gun jammed, sending the small Tiefling/gnome into burning rage which resulted in the beating death of one of the amoeba as she took out her frustrations upon it with the butt of her gun. Gobash, caught one with his hammer, and sent his wildfire spirit into the middle of the amoeba swarm and set loose a conflagration that took out many of the little buggers.
Very quickly the rest were dealt with and Shadow, much to his glee ended the battle, shredding the last amoeba with his claws. Upon investigating the cavern, the party found a secret door in the wall, ten feet wide, that led to a long corridor of fabricated medal.     Taking advantage of his stealth and vision, Shadow lead the others through the corridor to a T-junction, and chose the less used section, full of old cobwebs. Gimble, following him around the bend first, was surprised by a 'ghost' in the hallway, but a quick punch proved it to be an illusion. The party came to a similar doorway and with quick work unlocked the door. Nedyra and Gimble did have a private conversation questioning the motives of their resident Tabaxi using his newly acquired toy to unlock the door.
A short skirmish ensued on the other side of the door, when more of the Amoeba were found, and a weird crab-like creature known as an Aberrant Monster wandered into their view. Still curious about the metal hallway, and hopeful they'd discovered some kind of secret pirate lair, the crew returned to the corridor and went down the other hallway until they heard noise of a machine shop and the lighting brightened to indicate more use.     As they were debating a plan of action, Nefaria felt a searing cold along her right arm, and a bright burst of pain as a pink crystal, similar to quartz melded to her arm. The others, excited over the sight of the crystal immediately began chanting "one of us, one of us" in a way that is no way suggested that Nefaria may belong to a cult.

Notes
A crab like creature with two pincers on their forelegs and googly eyes, it however doesn't have any legs, but has a weird bulbous shape that lets it hover and fly. It's a first level spell caster, with eldritch blast, and alter self. Each round it summons 1d4 Aberrant Monsters within a 5ft radius.

Curious, the tiefling asked her Patron if he knew what such a crystal meant, while Nedyra, and the others started comparing their own gems once more. Nefaria's patron mentions something about God' Stones, but didn't have much information other than they're very old, and dangerous. Nedyra remembered a bit of information from the Feywild that one of the reasons they chose Tel'Eryon was due to a power vacuum felt in the ripples of the material plane. And as a group all of them felt a buffet of fear as they tried to remember if they'd ever come across a user of divine magicks.     Gorbash, announced in triumph that he had access to divine magic, and cast a spell upon Nefaria, healing her of the damage caused by the crystal, however, it took much longer than normal, and it wasn't nearly as potent as it should be.

A little unnerved, but also knowing they needed to continue their mission, the five, along with the wildfire spirit, and Trixie down the hallway toward the noise of the machine shop. Peering in the party discovered, gnomes, giffs, and humans, even some astral elves, as they worked on two ships out in the space dock. A Nautiloid ship called The Lennox, and a dragonship called the CopperCliff. What they discovered was the underground machine works of the Truck Stop above them.   Realizing they weren't dealing with pirates, and slightly saddened they weren't going to get a cool pirate ship* the party returned to the caves and continued their search for the mushroom. With a quick bit of perception the found the silver tendrils along the floor and followed the mycelial network down through the caves and into another arch.
Shadow, a bit took quick on the draw, got too close to one of the mushroom spores, but was strong enough to shrug off the effects of the poison. Following the mushroom trail but avoiding the spores themselves, they found the bundle and sent in Gimble, their autognome with the belljar and clipped the bundle of mushrooms with a quick flick of the wrist, and the belljar locked around the mushroom protecting the group from it's plague.
As they were heading out they uncovered a Crawler Juvenille and took care of it quite handily. With one final search, the party took care of a few more nasty creatures and found a Grung suspended from the wall by the mycelium with mushrooms growing from their skin.
After attempting to remove the mushrooms from the Grung without much success. Gimble used the strength in his Astral Arms and the party fled the cave and back to Earl and Jed who lent them a cart to help move the hapless researcher back to the Replenishing Gardens and the Hag. Nedyra with the assistance of her party successfully persuaded the Hag to pay them more for the bonus of a victim of the plague who was still alive. After a very successful day returned to the ship for long rest.   As the group fell asleep in their individual beds, they all heard a voice booming through a massive chamber. "Another candidate has been chosen."
