Session 18: Getting accepted into the Adventurers guild 2

General Summary

I woke up quite excited, ‘cause today was the day of the trials. We ate some breakfast and headed to the guild. We had to go through five trials. which were separated in four trials that were to be taken alone and one where we had to fight as a team. If any of us failed two of the private trials, they would fail to become adventurers. The group trial was more to decide which rank we would become.   The first trial was about strength. A batterin’ ram hung from the roof; it had a piece of chalk against a blackboard. The goal was to move the ram. I think they were pullin’ a joke on me, \ ‘cause I couldn’t get it to move. Valstrax entered the room after me, and he tried it just for fun and it just went all the way up!   The next trial was to test our dexterity. We had to cross a chasm by walkin’ over a narrow bridge. Balancin’ wasn’t the difficulty; it was the person that would throw a ball at us while we crossed. I didn’t want to take any chances; if the deck was stacked against me, I would take all the advantages I could get. I said a short prayer to bless myself, prepared my shield to take the ball, and crossed the bridge without problem.   At the next trial, I could only see a pool of water at the end of the hallway. A sign at the pool said ‘get to the other side’, we had to swim through the underwater tunnel. My armour was pretty heavy, so I just crawled across the bottom of the tunnel to the other side. Along the way, Valstrax passed by above me. Snakes are apparently good swimmers. Gettin’ out of the water, I was pretty pissed that my armour and beard had gotten wet just for a stupid trial. At least I made it.   The last private trial was to solve the murder. A dwarf lay dead in the middle of what looked like a bedroom. I looked around but couldn’t find anythin’ special. I guessed that it could’ve been a heart attacks, but the examiner said that it wouldn’t be a murder if that was the case. Still being wet, I got really annoyed by all these tests. I started to flip the bed, but stopped once I saw a note layin’ under it. The note read ‘Ik ben hier voor vertier, maar niet voor mijn plezier. In de hete zon, wacht ik op de gong’. I thought for a moment, but seein’ as we were in a colosseum it seemed fittin’ it would be a gladiator, and I was right!   I found the rest in the next room, with a bunch of weapon racks and a table with food on it. We were told we could take a break before the group trial began and if we needed any weapons, we could pick them off the racks. We ate some of the food and looked at the weapons, but our own gear should be good enough for the trial. Skrik wanted to impress the crowd in the colosseum like a real gladiator, so I gave him a mohawk with some help off some food grease.   When we entered the arena, we could see a dwarf on the other side. Water separated the two sides of the arena, with the only way over bein’ two bridges. The goal of the trial was to defeat the dwarf, so we took up positions behind cover and started shootin’ at him. He turned out to be able to take quite a punch, since most of us were downed by him before he went down. As an unwelcome surprise during the fight, three crocodiles appeared out of the water, which also attacked us. In the end we were victorious however, and were given the rank of gold adventurers!
