Session 57: Ominous altar

General Summary

After an only barely relaxing short rest in a room where skeletons were shovelling trash, we decided to continue our exploration of this dungeon. We entered a large multi-tiered room. Each tier was 10 feet lower than the last. There were also stalagmites and stalactites everywhere. When we entered, Voron heard the slithering of creatures that reminded him of Valstrax, so we prepared for a fight. Shortly after, we got attacked by tentacle snake monsters that we had encountered before. Luckily, these were only the smaller versions. There were also strange flying brains with beaks. On top of all that, the room was filled with innocent commoners. We did our best to kill the monsters as fast as possible and save as many commoners as possible. I figured this was the right time to boost up Valstrax’s weapon again, which went very well, I’d say. Janey was the one who saved most commoners. Teleportation worked extraordinarily well in this room. When all the monsters were dead and the still surviving commoners were as safe as they could be in this room, we checked out the bottom floor. On the floor, we found a contact stone and a strange altar. The top of the altar was filled with the shadowy silhouettes of weapons, amulets and other items. The side of the altar strangely had our faces on it. Janey identifies that the altar can give items magical properties but that they already have to be magical. I guess Valstrax loved the sound of that since he immediately placed Mythweaver on the altar. At the exact moment the weapon hit the altar, Voron dropped unconscious. Valstrax looked confused. He could hear Voron’s voice in his mind. After a quick inspection by Janey, she figured out that Voron’s soul had been transferred into the weapon. The only way we could wake up Voron was to hand him the sword. Voron’s body would even die if it didn’t touch the sword longer than a day. The good part was that this curse could be removed magically. We decided that all this was more than enough reason to get out of this place and take a good night's rest. Valstrax should be able to remove the curse tomorrow. On the way back, we dropped on the commoners at Serana, where they went back to Thay. When we got outside, the caravan had still not returned. Well, even without the caravan, it’s better to sleep here than inside that place.
