Session 40: Track guards and an invincible monster

General Summary

After having orientated ourselves above ground, we went back into those weird tunnels with their long tracks, curious what we would find. The Rat keeps telling about the carriages that are sometimes standing on those tracks and other marvels, like food that never goes bad, usually found at the big yellow 'M'. The elders of my clan never had much to tell about the old big cities, as they rarely visited them, even before the big collapse, and they never mentioned such tunnels. About the food in the city they were clear: nothing like nature.   Continuing over the tracks, we arrived at a platform similar to the one we departed from at the library. The tunnels were quite unstable, some parts had already collapsed and collapsed even further when we made loud noises. As we arrived at the platform, we saw some golem like creatures, with shields for arms. Apparently they were low level members of the old Boros legion. Although they responded well to the authority of the Naga, I wanted to try to keep some distance and circled around them over the tracks. However, they called me back and as they didn't look too friendly, I decided to comply. They went out of the way when the Naga told them to do so and we were able to pass.   Looking through the rubble, we saw one of those carts the Rat was talking about. It was covered by a lot of rubble, but the Dwarf saw something shiny and he wanted to grab it. However, it required hem to step on the tracks, and the guards immediately intervened, calling him back and closing in, and he failed. After that the Rat decided to distract the guards a bit by putting his hat on and looking like one of them. Then the Naga had a try and he yanked something from the rubble. Straight away, he was attacked by the same thing. It was some spider like creature in an armor.   The guards immediately came into action, attacking the creature while calling the Naga to leave the tracks. The creature was quick, but the guards kept knocking it prone, preventing its escape. Soon, all guards were around it and it was boxed in. Now something weird happened: the guards kept slamming it with their shields, knocking it prone every time, but that didn't seem to do any damage. It was like it was invincible. The creature itself also couldn't damage the guards either, its slashing attacks did no damage to them. While this stalemate lasted, we also had trouble hitting the creature. Hitting it while it was prone was hard, our magic didn't do much damage and the wounds of the Naga showed it could damage us quite well, so we didn't want to come too close. On top of that, the creature was also able to shoot paralyzing and damaging beams. In the end, the Naga decided to close in regardless and managed to chop off the head of the armor.   At this point the occupant came out, a probably demonic spider. Without its armor it was much more vulnerable and we managed to do a lot of damage, while the guards kept it boxed in. Then it showed its last trick, just disappearing in front of us. It probably went to another plane and we didn't see it anymore. The guards dispersed and as a conciliation prize we collected the armor pieces from the track before the guards could call us back.   After that we went on and found some weird stairs in the back, made from overlapping pieces of metal. There was a hatch in front of it and when I opened it, I found a contraption with gears inside, with next to it some buttons. When I pressed one of the buttons, the stairs started moving! The other stopped it and then sent it backwards. This could be useful it we really wanted to mechanize our carriage!   After a bit more playing with the stairs, we went on, upstairs. Here were several large chambers and one of those immediately got the Rat excited, as it was one of those places with food that never goes bad. Indeed he found some, but I refused.   We went further on and got outside. There were some large ruins, each with a lot of small rooms, as if a lot of people used to live closely together. No one was here now though. As it was already late, we decided to set up camp, hoping for a good night sleep.
