Session 71: Testing Our Metal

General Summary

Well, it’s finally time to do our test to see if we’re qualified to go into Mithral. And if they think Aaldryn has what it takes to be an official Guild Adventurer. Which would be easier if he was actually in his room. But, apparently his parents are in town for today only, so he can’t. His loss.   After breakfast, we head to the Guild hall to let ‘em know we’re there for our test. Wonder if it’ll be like in Donner Keep. But seeing how many people there are in front of the Guild hall, a LOT of them in pretty shabby gear… I’m guessing not. I also see a couple of things we got from that Thayan dungeon thing. I know from experience those things can hurt pretty bad if wielded properly, so that’s good at least.   Apparently, we’ll be heading out under guidance of someone named Sylmis for our test. And since we have to wait for everybody to get signed in, I take some time to summon Mirage again. Who is looking… A lot more scaly than I remember. Almost more like a dragon than a horse. But since I’m pretty spooky by myself, I’m not too worried. It’s probably because my connection to this Platinum Dragon is still growing stronger.   Once all 100 people they can handle have been signed in, we head out into the plains to the East of Lundyn. As we’re going, I tell the people in the shoddier looking gear not to risk their lives unnecessarily. After about 3 hours of travel, about 30-ish people have decided it’s way too much walking for them and went back. The rest of us get to a big plateau. Like, WAY too big to have been made by people anytime recently.   First test: Getting onto the dang thing. Easy enough. Voron does some spider magic on me and I zip up onto it without a problem. Then I throw down a rope for the rest while Voron-as-a-bigass-eagle brings Duldar and Janey up. We’re nice like that.   On the plateau are the houses that’ll be our actual test. Long story short: Lotta different kinds of tests to see how well we handle different kinds of situations. We do amazingly well, as always. At least, I think so. The whole thing is collecting a bunch of totems. Unlike the Donner Keep initiation, we WANT to get as many as we can this time.   Some of the highlights of the tests are a talking Mimic (Janey was very excited by that one), a maze of sandy walls that keep shifting around, a room with a LOT of spiders and wasps that we didn’t even really disturb all that much before we’re done... Oh, and a well with one of those tentacled rock creatures in it. It grabbed me and dragged me in. Too bad for it, Duldar did that freedom magic on me, so I just slipped out and coiled around it, instead. Between all of us, it died very quickly. And it didn’t even scratch me.   Oh, before I forget: There was also a guy carving statues of scared people, who wanted to know that feeling of terror. So, I did a slightly less ‘friendly’ version of what I did at the Four Seasons with that lovely lady. Though the effect seemed kinda similar, to be honest. He must’ve really liked it.   After a while, there’s a bell to signal the end of the test, and we go rest up in a house that doesn’t have any tests set up. Sylmis is talking to people that watched how we did, and delivers the feedback for that to the groups that did the tests. We’re the last group. Turns out, that’s because we’re the only group that was trying out for Mithral.   And of course, we passed with flying colors! So, once we are back in Lundyn and have our new tokens for Mithral tier, I make us a nice feast to celebrate our rank up. Aaldryn will just have to deal with being our apprentice for a little bit longer. Not our fault his parents chose THE worst possible time to show up.
