Session 60: Horrible Altar

General Summary

We enjoyed another night of outside camping. The caravan still wasn’t back yet, so Janey checked on them with the message spell. They seemed fine, but having a succubus among them spells trouble. So to double-check, she decided to send Mihri in bird form towards the caravan.
During breakfast, we talked about several things. To begin with, Valstrax talked about another dream he had in the night. Something about strange pillars sucking away power. Looking back, it kind of sounded like a warning of what was to happen today. But I will get to that.
We also showed Aaldryn the boomsticks that we collected so long ago. We decided to show them in practice, but Valstrax didn’t want us to use them outside. So we decided to check if that naga was back and try them afterwards.
I didn’t expect the naga to be back, but there he was, together with a large group of undead and cultists. I tried banishing the naga as promised, but that thing is pretty slippery. Honestly, the destroyed terrain that Voron caused didn’t help. I even ended up almost sinking into one of the pools. However, that was a blessing in disguise since we found magic plate armor down there, which was apparently from the naga. Unfortunately, before I could successfully banish the naga, it teleported away somewhere. Janey said she recognised the spell and that it should still be somewhere in this wing of the dungeon. So we decided to search for it.   Having checked most places, we figure the best place where the naga could be hiding out is the place where we haven’t been yet, the blood pools. When we entered, this altar was there that sucked away the intellect of anyone who got close. To me, it didn’t do much, but to Voron and Valstrax, it wasn’t good. Voron just stood there paralysed, and Valstrax’s intellect was drained away to the point where he had trouble speaking. What’s worse, there were enemy Sahuagin here performing some kind of ritual. We prepared to deal with them. Janey summoned a water element that hid in the water. Aaldryn used magic to have two of the Sahuagin leave the room. I animated several coins to fight with us. All in all, this fight was over quickly.   We tried to figure out how this altar worked to reverse the effect. I even tried dispelling it with my most potent magic, but it only suspended the altar's aura. So even after Janey and Aaldryn checked out the altar, we had no idea how to reverse it. I hope this isn’t permanent.
