Session 38: Of bars and books

General Summary

OH. MY. GOSH. This must have been the happiest day in my life! Well, not completely, of course, but all the annoyance and effort was worth it! All that knowledge!   Oh, maybe I should start by telling what actually happened.   The group stayed at the Four Seasons Inn again to enjoy all the luxuries it provides. We’ll move into the cottage soon, but we thought we could give the landlord a bit more time to prepare. We paid extra for a fully stocked and prepared kitchen, after all!   Skrik and I decided it would be fun to pretend to run a bar for an evening, so we hired a tavern and ran it as we pleased. It was... an interesting experience. I’ve learned a lot about people. Skrik seemed to be really in his element though, no matter the shape he was pretending to be in!   The next morning, we went back to the library.   Although the library secretary was surprised by our essays, they did seem to be good enough to grant us access to the more exclusive part of their collection – which was held underground and consisted of mostly pre-fall books. You can imagine my delight at discovering this, and we enthusiastically went downstairs to find said collection. Or, well, I was enthusiastic, at least. Probably enthusiastic enough for all of us.   Before we could access this veritable treasure trove of ancient knowledge, though, we were required to take some sort of ‘test’. We’ve faced those before, so we were not deterred much.   We were led into a room with four doors. All the doors, when opened separately, opened to show a wall – including the one we had just come in through, so we found ourselves stuck. Luckily, with a bit of help from my handy dandy spell book, we quickly deciphered the riddle and opened the right doors, upon which the room changed.   This repeated for about fifty times. Frustration and impatience were growing in the group. Or perhaps, this too was just me. I wanted to see those forgotten books, gods damnit!   So I might have accidentally, in my haste... have thrown a door open into Duldar’s face. It was by accident! I didn’t know my thaumaturgy was that powerful when I’m annoyed!   Anyway, we FINALLY made it into the library and it was magnificent.   It was clear that this was not an area open to everyone. There were rows upon rows of shelves of books, all in different languages – some of them so ancient that I needed my little spell again!   We made our way to the library desk to find a sort of mechanical man seated behind it. He called himself ‘designation 000456’ and was selectively helpful with finding the information we needed.   We split up, each of us researching different subjects: I was to focus on the Arcane people and airships, Skrik on demonology and the mages guild (which was introduced to us by designation 000456, I’m very excited to see what that’s about!), Valstrax on the Boros Legion and the platinum dragon, Voron on different animals and the strange creatures we have encountered on our journeys, and Duldar on automatons and firearms. We’re all digging through information now, I hope we’ll find many interesting things! I can hardly wait!
