Session 4: The Rise of Tiamat Report

General Summary

Once the battle was over the party slumped over nearly dead and trying to gather themselves again. After a few moments a large figure clad in armor and wielding a pike burst through the door. Luckily for the party, it was Joyce coming to help them...but she was a little too late. After helping the party move and gather pieces from the tile chimera so it wouldn't come back to life in a day, she motioned for them to follow her back to her shop. On the way, she informed them that she had found Gunthar in the forest wandering around and fighting plants and brought him back to her shop earlier in the day. Allowing the party to rest there, they prepared themselves to leave. On the way out, they stopped by Thildra's Trinkets to find that it had recently closed for good. Breaking into the back entrance of it, they searched around through the shop to find mostly everything had been picked up and moved out. After a quick final glance about the town, the party decided to leave for Khatharbund. On the way the party ran across a merchant wagon headed into town being drawn by an orge with both of his eyes removed and his arms cut off. Shroombo befriended the giant as the party attempted to deal with the elves running the shop on wheels. The giant mistook Shroombo for the tiny mushroom god and was gifted a mushroom to grow on his back. The party moved on and set up camp. First thing in the morning a young man tore through the forest and ran up on the party holding his pants in his hands. "I was here with you the whole time, right?!" he exclaimed more people tore through the woods after him. Running across the road into the ruins of a castle that had been hidden by the evening sky. The local farmers came up on the party, but when it was explained to them that the young man that had taken his daughter's innocence ran off into the ruins they decided it was best that they don't go in there. Explaining that the land was cursed, the party decided to go there after him for the farmers and began marching through the ruins of the castle. Moving ahead, Gomm was entangled by some assassin vines that attempted to eat him; however, the party was able to dispatch a couple of them easily. As they continued through the remains, they run across a larger version of Shroombo along with a couple of other swamp creatures. After a lengthy dialogue Shroombo gained a new weapon (THORN) from his brother in fungus and prepared to leave. Gomm decided to go after the chest that remained in the middle of the ruins; however, upon placing his hand on there the chest came to life. He was able to snatch his hand off of the mimic and took off running. Escaping down the road, the party arrived in Khatharbund in the evening.   After reaching the town, they immediately went to the giant golden spire that was a temple of Bahamut. Upon entering they came upon a silver scaled dragonborn cleric named Lili that had a chain shirt on along with a mace. After explaining their situation, she observed the party and explained to them that Balazar was cursed, Gunthar was broken, and Gomm should leave...immediately. Shroombo and Gomm exited as she began cleansing Balazar. Removing the axe from his grasp, she placed her hand on him and began purifying his soul with the light of Bahamut. As Balazar was burned from the inside by the light, the curse was removed and the sword was taken away to be destroyed. They also exchanged words about the cultists where she exclaimed that she'd heard of their deeds from their eyes in the field and would like for them to stay in town as their assistance would be needed. The party exited and began walking back towards the inn to sleep. They ran into a middle aged woman lecturing passers-by on the dangers and the threat of necromancy. After a small interaction with her, Balazar heard his name shouted out from behind him. A green dragon born whose scales were a more faded green color than Balazar's came running up and introduced himself as Murabi. He wore full plate armor and carried a large sword and shield with the symbol of Bahamut on it. He had been looking for any survivors from his old village and found himself here in this town for a while. After explaining how the city works (tossing a gold coin to teleport to monoliths within the city), locations of some places, he requested a meal with his long lost brother in the coming days. The party agreed and headed towards the inn only to be stopped by a guard as they hit the main street. After the earth elemental moved through the street repairing the stones of the road and walkway they were allowed to go and entered the inn. Sitting down to eat, Balazar and Gunthar bonded in a test of intelligence and strength which ended up with Gunthar munching down on a plate, exerting his hardcore dominance over Balazar. After this manly display, they went to their rooms and Shroombo went out to the stables for a night of rest.
