Curse of Strahd Session 4

General Summary

14th of Mid-Ardent, 1736

Strahd’s agents roamed around the quiet little village of Barovia, calling out where the girl could be. The party quickly went to the church, preparing themselves for the agents. Ireena and Ismark hid under pews as the cloaked agents paced around the scenery, making a mockery to Donavich, the local priest. With no luck, the agents headed out.

”I worship the principles of good.” ~ Aloysius

”Good? My, Donavich, you truly have the sappiest congregation.” ~ Strahd’s Agent

The party then investigates the undercroft where they find Donavich’s son, Doru, being afflicted with vampirism. Asocial and skittish, he hissed at them to go away. The party, feeling helpless, stepped out. Tastarn saw differently. Forming a contract to rid him of his affliction in return for an alliance, Doru accepted it. His long and gnarled nails became extensions. A balding head of hair puffed into a borderline afro. His rags turned into glamor. His emaciated body turned fuller and curvaceous. The vampirism, cured.

After resting until 11 PM (2300), they wake up to a procession of ghosts marching to Ravenloft, as they were unresponsive to any character. The party heads out for Vallaki. While looking for a horse, Tastarn stumbles upon a stray corpse in the wild. Further investigation showed it to be Clovis’ body and touching it was when the flesh melted away. He proceeded to collect the bones to show the party. Informing Clovis on the matter, the bones did show to be exactly like his. After smacking Clovis to see if he was real, that’s when (casting the invisibility spell) he faded.

The party proceeded forward into the Svalich Woods, where they would find a violinist playing as skeletons danced around the graveyard. Hoping to interact with the strange figure, skeletons then tried bringing them into the dance. Most of the characters resisted the grapples. Once Deacon Ironfist claimed the violin from the mysterious figure, the skeletons then trudged back to their graves.

Heading further north past the Vistani encampment, they find a black stagecoach sitting out in the woods. Curious, the party seat themselves within. To their dismay, it begun taking them to Castle Ravenloft! Trying to stop the carriage, the horses were stubborn and persistent in taking them to the castle, ending up at the drawbridge.

Hoping to claim one of the horses, Tastarn winds up at Ravenloft’s front doors. Curious, he steps inside, making his way as he finds the Dining Hall.

Three enormous crystal chandeliers brilliantly illuminate this magnificent chamber. Pillars of stone stand against dull white marble walls, supporting the ceiling. In the center of the room, a long, heavy table is covered with a fine white satin cloth. The table is laden with many delectable foods: roasted beast basted in a savory sauce, roots and herbs of every taste, and sweet fruits and vegetables. Places are set for each of you with fine, delicate china and silver. At each place is a crystal goblet filled with an amber liquid with a delicate, tantalizing fragrance.   At the center of the far west wall, between floor-to-ceiling mirrors, stands a massive organ. Its pipes blare out a thunderous melody that speaks in its tone of greatness and despair. Seated at the organ, facing away from you, a single caped figure pounds the keys in raptured ecstasy. The figure suddenly stops, and as a deep silence falls over the dining hall, it slowly turns toward you.
