Session 23: Continuing Ocean Travels Report

General Summary

Date: The Month of Stability 17th, 997 (Monday). Note: The attempt on Marin's life was on the 15th.   After the attempt on Marin's life the captain confined everyone to quarters for the afternoon. Madam Rilt in her condition, and refusal to speak, is being placed in confinement for the rest of the trip with her wife.   The crew has been gossiping, but nothing is certain. Marin is shaken, and decides to stay in her quarters. Marcus is taking care of her, bringing food and staying close by. This gives Johnny more freedom, now spending most of his time with the captain.   After the short confinement, things return to normal. Marin has been called to the captains quarters.   The captain is aware she died and was the cause of most of the chaos. So he questions Marin, making sure she is not a threat to the ship after the events that occurred. He threatens to abandon the whole lot of them on Drasta if they cause more trouble. Marin is able to convince him that she and the group will be well behaved, and there will not be more issues.   Marin returns to her quarters afterwards, taking the time to cast find familiar. She conjures an almiraj called Hali.   Perrin talks to Beth and borrows a pearl from her so he can identify some potions of his.   Tof completes the water bucket challenge in his quarters.   Beth takes a plate from the galley, and returns to her room. She burns something, and pricks her finger to talk to Erif. She is transported into a waiting room where a tiefling is working on a typewriter. She gets to speak with Erif, and he asks if he knows her. He then pulls up her file, reading and laughing here and there. He then says, my statement still stands - signalling the Beth that their deal is done.   After this Beth talks to Dolius asking if he is okay to still be on the journey. He says he is there for brotherly support and the use of his skills, so he is fine staying.

  • Ellion summoned the group to his quarters, Dolius attends, and Marin sends her familiar in her stead. Ellion speaks about the issue with Tof, and how they can only make one more potion until it is no longer effective against Erif.   The group tries to come up with a number of solutions, Ellion eventually suggesting they trick Erif or distract him in some fashion. They wonder who can distract him, Ellion pointing to Beth. The group decides that Beth should try to touch Erif so that Ahovz turns her anger to him, that way Erif is too busy with her to try to reach out to Tof.   The group deduces that Erif cannot recognize people immediately, he has so many connections he relies on files to remind himself who people are.   Marin lends Beth her onyx clothes so that she can disguise herself first. Beth then thinks she needs a reason to go, suggesting the lie her brother is in danger. Beth is worried it will not be believable. Marin then threatens Dolius with her claws, but Ellion bats her away making a quick potion with Dolius' hair. Ellion breaks, curses, and forces Beth to drink it after some back and forth, and then they shove her outside the room. Ellion leans against the door, his natural calmness gone as he says he hates everyone in the room.   Beth is filled with dread that he brother is dying. She goes to her room, starts the fire, and calls out to Erif. She is taken directly in his office.   Erif is acting kinder, showing some compassion (or maybe pity) to Beth's situation. Beth tries to run up to touch him but he teleports out of the way. He has a file in his hand, and as he is about to read it, Beth grabs his wrist with her left hand.   In the void of Erif's plane a light appears, and comes rocketing towards him. Erif reads the first line of the file looking down at Beth. Beth is unable to let go of Erif, and feels as her hand starts being burned away. Erif only manages to say 'shit' before he is smacked with the light, tossing Beth back into her room. Her left hand burned away, the wound cauterized.   Beth returns to the group successful. Ellion is freaking out about her injury. Beth is unable to use her changeling abilities to regrow the hand.   -   Continuing to Drasta there is another week on the boat.   Perrin talks to the group about Mat a bit. Talking about his backstory (provided by Peter on discord) and letting Marin know if she ever sees Mat fully in control to knock him out.   Perrin returns Beth's pearl.   Johnny finds one of his swords in his room, a note saying that a gentleman should always have his weapon on hand.   During the week Ellion has been avoiding Beth, blaming themself for the injury. They have been dropping off gifts and food for Beth as a way to amend, which Beth has been accepting.   Marin goes to see Marcus, asking for his help. She takes him to her room to show that there are claw marks all over the room. She mentions not sleeping well, and waking up in wildshape form. Marcus helps her hide the markings, cleaning up the room. Marcus also offers to stay with her while she sleeps, maybe tell her some stories if she likes. Marin agrees. When night comes, Marcus takes a seat near the bed. There is an awkward moment when Marcus is unsure what to do. Marcus sits back putting his hat over his face to sleep, and Marin turns over to sleep as well.
  • The boat arrives at Drasta, and it is able to fully make port, showing how deep the waters are. The port is attached to a cliff face, and there are winding paths and stairs that lead up to a chaotic scene. There are tents all along the cliff side, and the sounds of business are in full swing.   Before leaving the boat the captain warns the departing guests that the land is lawless, and that any returning passengers need to return by sunset to get back on board.   The Madam Rilt's depart, entering a guarded carriage. Trevor and Mariah meet some men on the docks, leaving as well. The 3 elven medics meet with a carriage of other medics. The 2 goblin merchants run off, carrying their goods to join the markets above.   There is time to explore the evening. Coming up into the market there are masses of people pushing through, some buying, some selling, some fighting, some bartering. Even more varied than the people, are the items. There are goods and items ranging from spoons used by nobles to magic spears that sing when you throw them.   The market is free to peruse.   To be continued.
