Season 3: Session 3: Righteous Bounty Report

General Summary

Date: The Month of Demons 21st, 997 AC. (Sunday)   It's the last day of the week of Earth. People are filthy, competition is strong, and spirits are high.   David is leaving town before the week of Erif. He's taking last minute requests and will return in a few weeks.   The party has decided to hunt down the bounty for Righteousness, a tiefling who killed Lord Frederick Potter in Potter "Town". His wife, Juliana Potter, is offering 100 gold for her capture; dead or alive.   Stopping by the Sheriff's Office, the party got updated information from Marcus. He informed them that Righteousness had been seen fleeing the Potter Manor in a white and blue carriage with a vase sigil. The carriage was seen numerous times heading towards the Quiet Woods, then into the Mountain Range, and finally it was last seen by Ash Riktor, Mayor Q Riktor's son, past Riktor Town.   Before leaving, Grandad buys some last minute potions (33 & 69).   The party travels by foot to Riktor Town (except Cecil who conqures a steed (bear)). Two days later they arrive in the town.   Thia and Kobble go to the Hospital and ask the dragonborn doctor about the carriage. She says it didn't come through the town, but Ash had seen it past the town. She directs them towards the only other standing building (Town Hall), where the Mayor can be found.   In the Town Hall the party briefling speaks with Mayor Q before he calls his son, Ash, out to assist. Ash leads the group North over a ledge, plain, then down another ledge.   There they find the abandoned carriage in a valley that travels far to the West, but stops just to the East of the carriage. Grandad notices a crumbling of rocks had footholds in it leading to the East.    Ash leaves the party (5 gold richer (thanks Thia)) as they continue East. Soon they are walking in a grassy area between two mountain faces. Then they come across a cobblestone path. Muddy bootprints mark the path.   Thia takes flight and travels ahead of the group and sees that the path continues on, weaving through this valley.    After camping for the night, the party is awoken by Grandad. The grass had started to grow around all of them, and they quickly escape. Cecil needing additional help as the grass tightens around him more.    Thia turns to check the path forward to see an impossibly large hedge, and an entrance to a maze.    Traveling through the maze, the party sees the following:

  • A crumbling statue with only the feet intact. The shoes are smooth with no latches or buckles on them. Further investigation shows that some pieces of the rock have engraved letters in the Elvish language.
  • -  A mirror that transports the party to another part of the maze when their reflection is touched.
  • A stone pattern in the grass with a compass in the center. Each tip of the compass had a different type of metal. South was copper, East silver, North gold, West platinum.
  • A stone table and chair with a spellbook ontop of it. One page was still intact with the spell "Suggestion" (given to Grandad).
  •   Free of the hedge maze the party emerges in a large courtyard before towering castle merged into the face of the mountain. The area is secluded, sheer mountain faces blocking in three sides, with the last side blocked by the hedge maze.   The large double doors are open, torches are lit, and two dogs stand guard. After a quick inspection (and a thrown rock) the party discovers that time is frozen inside of the castle; the work of chronomancy.    Thia releases one of the dogs who becomes immediatly hostile. The dog is thrown back into the time lock by Cecil and left to float. Grandad moves him to the ground then sooths the other dog, removing it, and tying a tether to her (+1 pet).   From the side of the castle a purple tiefling dressed in black appears. She's opening windows and doors, peering into the frozen time. She claims the castle to be her's as she found it first and she had a map to it.    They quickly determine she is Righteousness, as she nonchalantly confesses to killing Lord Potter for the map. She is not hostile and doesn't pay much mind to the party.   Cecil comes up and uses Command to have her look into a window. He pushes her in and then has the party tie her up for transport. She is unbothered as she says she will escape prison.    The party travels back through the maze and camps on the other side. Righteousness makes her escape and the party catches up to her heading back to the castle.    She offers them a deal to leave her alone for now and she'll return with more money than the bounty. After struggling with the thought, Cecil attacks her with his spears.    She comes up to the group and casts a scroll of Teleport. She vanishes, leaving the party in the mountain range.   After the party returns to Little Town, Marcus greets them with the 100 gold reward. Righteousness had turned herself in, and then escaped shortly afterwards. She also left behind a note for Cecil.    To end the evening, Thia downs two of her potions. She blurts out "I have successfully avoided telling you all my deepest darkest secret." to an empty room, and believes she is Ben for a for hours.   Kobble also drinks a potion, and can walk through walls for 7 days.    Thia goes with Kobble and the two bake bread together.   TO BE CONTINUED...
