Session 16: Exit the Tomb Report

General Summary

Date: Unknown   Main Line Quest:   Beth reaches out, touching the blue dagger. She notes the lightness of it as her hand wraps around it our of her control. She lifts it from the stand and her vision turns blue.   The group from the outside see as Beth's head throws back and blue light pours out of her eyes and her mouth, quickly followed by water pouring out of her being. The water builds up around her, her form bursts out only water remaining where she stood.   Beth during this could feel the water leaving her form, and a pressure building up in her chest. She hears a voice shout 'no', and she feels something plunge into her chest. The blue vision clears and she is no longer in the dagger room, she can only see water. And her diety, who has plunged her arm into Beth's chest. Water stares at Beth all four eyes wide, her teeth gritted with determination as she says "I will not kill you."     [Private discussion with Beth]     The water on the floor a few minutes later reforms. Beth stands soaked, breathing heavily holding the dagger in hand. Beth not much for talking starts walking for the next archway, stumbling on the way, Marin sacrifices some of her health to restore Beth.   Perrin takes this as a teaching opportunity, telling Missy not to poke an owl bear. Missy then stops from poking the red dagger.   Marin worries about the balance in the cave system, thinking that if only one dagger is taken something bad will happen. Marin goes to the red dagger and pokes it, feeling as if she broke a barrier in doing so. She then picks up the dagger. Flynn stands far across the room afraid that she would burst into flames. Having not burst into flames, Marin wraps up the dagger and puts it in her bag.   The group goes through the next archway. There are three wooden doors. The left has a silver door knob, the center a copper, and the right a gold one.   Beth opens the center revealing a spiral staircase going up.   Marin opens the right. There is only a wooden desk inside. The desk is knocked over, and there are scorch marks on it. There are also scorch marks on the walls. Marin opens the center draw on the desk narrowly avoiding being blasted by fire. Marin suspects Erif may be trapped in the desk.   Perrin opens the left door and sees a desk with scattered papers on it. The walls are covered floor to ceiling with bookcases. The Copperpots and Missy follow Perrin inside. All of the books are noted on the sides with a name and a number, none of the numbers going higher than 997. The books are people's life stories. All of the books are written on dead people, all dictated by Water and written by Lun.   Marin enters the room a bit after the group. While looking at books she hears a noise come from the desk, a light comes out of the drawer. Marin talks to the desk asking if Water is there, the Copperpots look at her as if she is crazy. Marin opens the drawer. There is a rolodex inside. The first card she reads states that someone died on Starz 26th, 997 at 9:02 in the morning. (Note: the group entered the 'tomb' on the 22nd). Marin spins through the rolodex, finding her name in there as well. A red stamp is across her card that says 'RECALLED'. Marin spins further back finding Alma's card seeing it said she died from complications after a previous injury.   During this Perrin has found the books for the Brightlight brothers. He looks through them noting that both of the last pages of their books are blacked out, and the final back covers have not yet been stamped by Ahovz. Marin notices what he is doing, and looks in the rolodex both of their cards saying their deaths were acidents.   Perrin additionally finds Sir Nightwind's book. Tells his story of being a snotty brat from a rich family, he wanted power as he grew up, and decided to find a dragon as a grown man. Cause of death, burned in half.   Finishing up reading few things, the group considers heading out. Perrin however notices some gaps on the back wall around the bookshelves. Marin wildshapes into a spider and crawls through seeing that the bookcases keep going. She finds a button on the back of it and presses it.   Marin gets fucking launched.   The bookshelf starts moving, going from 0 - 60 in 10 seconds pushing Marin on her heels as she is stuck behind the wall. Marin catches a glance of a book seeing she has been taken past the 800s, and the speed keeps increasing until she cannot see anything but blurs. After what feels like eons the shelf stops suddenly, launching Marin forward. Marin catches her self by producing webs.   Marin now in a brightly light bookshelf corridor sees she is at the start of the books. The first few books are labeled with just a 0. The first book with a name is for Maureen.   Looking at the first book of 0, it notes multiple failed attempt at different races, it also then continues saying for example 'human man, died trying to create fire'. Going to Maureen's book it say she died at the age of "6" having drowned in a river. Marin notes that this book was dictated by Ahovz, and is the only book to have been from what she sees. In the year 0 the books are all different all dictated by different deities. Once year 1 starts all books are uniform bound in a grey purplish cover, and all are dictated by Water, the end of the books being stamped by respected deities if they were religious.   Marin runs down the passageway getting to the 100s, were from the duration all the books are red. Marin goes through the war period and tries to find a familiar name. She finds a book for Sir Patrick Stewart. During the war he brought the Air Immortal to the top of a mountain to speak to the dieties. He was then knighted for his efforts. Sadly he died a week later while terms were still being named.   Marin takes the book and returns to the bookshelf, she presses the button again and is launched back to where she came from.   While Marin is away the group continues to look around. Beth noting that the bookshelves are not magic. Perrin also with the help of Beth find out the ring he got hold a firebolt spell inside. It can be used once before needing to be recharged in a fire.   Marin yells to watch out as she comes back, the bookshelf stops throwing her back into Water's study. Perrin tries to use feather fall. Marin flies over the desk, hits the wall, but falls gracefully to the ground after.   The group checks the rolodex again seeing that the date now says it is the 28th and this most recent person died of heatstroke.   The group leaves Water's study (having left any books the disturbed on the desk, Perrin also leaving an apology note for their disruption) and returns to the fire room to see if the desk has anything interesting in it. It did not. It only have fire inside.   During all of this Tof was collecting more gold until it physically hurt too much, and he laid on the floor indisposed.   The group them starts ascending the spiral staircase. After what feels like an eternity of walking they all exit out where they come from, the split stone. Everyone is blinded by the light outside. Once people get adjusted they all realize how hot it is outside. The sun looks bigger, closer. The ocean water has also drastically receded.   The group talks, noting Ahovz must be angry. Marin suggests that a war may be in coming as the tension is different than before, and things are mounting up. Beth mentions something about the contract all the deities signed, where it stated none of the dieties could touch one another, but how they could also not have contact with sorcerers, and if these were broken the contract would be null and void.   They pile into Flynn's plane. He flies low and teleports the group back to Little Town. They land near the graveyard.   The group sees Marcus as he sprints to the plane, he swings open the door concerned. He grows more concerned after Beth causally says Marin died.   Marcus tells everyone that there are people in town trying to find Isaac. Ahovz sent holy crusaders to find sorcerers. They hid Isaac in Liam Jenkins house. Flynn jumps out of the plane saying he also needs to go to Liam Jenkins house.   Marcus also tells the group that the town is a bit in chaos with adventurers dying of heat stroke. And the water supply has been messed up, so people have been in conflict over this.   The group gives Marcus some advice, to tell the people in town that we are neutral ground and will not accept violence in town.   Marcus starts leaving with Flynn. Marin catches him before he goes first, returning the hat. Marcus apologizes that it didn't help her, offering for her to keep it for a bit longer, but she insists. He puts the hat back on and runs off with Flynn.   Perrin, Marin, and Beth return to Perrin's house to drink potions. Tof heads back to his house to make gold angels.   Perrn and Marin drink the two purple glitching potions together. They now share each others pain.   Perrin later checks in with David, wanting to get some things. David tells him to talk with him later. Perrin also retrieves his dog from the Mayor's house, giving her a bottle of wine for her help. Perrin then goes home, writes down all he remembers and offers it to Lun. He also puts a note in the box asking if Lun has any requests for him.   Marin goes and buys 3 barrels from the general store. She places one by the church, one by the town hall, and one by the inn/bar. She fills each with water.   Marin returns home and sees Earth sitting at her table. Earth stands when she comes in a bit uneasy. He came because Marin died, he saw her in the afterlife for a few seconds. Marin thought he came about the dagger, she shows it to him. Paul picks up the chair he was standing behind and backs up. Earth coughs, putting it down, apologizing saying 'that was Paul.' The two sit after Earth asks if he touched any food stuffs that could have been on the table. Marin asks if Paul or Earth is a germaphobe. Earth says nope, but Paul is something. The two sit and Marin discusses her issues with how she and her clan barely know anything about the world, and base what they know around Earth. And with the Paul and Earth thing, and also on top of that in the 100 year war how Earth was noted to work with Erif.   Earth denies working with Erif. He expresses back then he did not have a body, he was big, and did not understand life. Now he is well aware as an older man with chronic pain. But he expresses that he and Water were tied to Erif because Earth introduced Erif to Lun, Starz, and Ahovz. However, he also noted how Erif is a very convincing fellow. Erif spoke to Earth about balance stating that there was not physical balance as there was more water than land. So Earth uncapped a few of Erif's volcanoes, which Earth regrets doing.    The topic turns to current events, how Ahovz became angry a few days ago. Water broke the contract by being in direct contact with a sorcerer, and because of this Ahovz attacked Water. The contract is gone. Marin says she thinks she knows who the sorcerer was involved in breaking the contract. Earth says the only way to avoid greater conflict is to get the Air Immortal to strike up a new contract, but someone would have to get to him first. Air judges the souls of those who come to him, sending people away more than not. Earth stops his rambling about trying to contact Air, and looks at Marin, asking if she wants to go on an epic quest. Earth thinks her soul is good enough to meet with Air. Earth also tells Marin to bring the sorcerer that caused the break in the contract because Air might do more if he sees them as well.   Earth apologizes for his behavior, noting Paul's anxiety but also his split attention as the balance is very out of whack. Earth leaves abruptly due to an issue in another town. He exits but quickly pops his head back in saying he's glad Marin is not dead.    Later after Marin rests up she turns into a mastiff and patrols around town.   Beth returns to her home, noting that the lights are on inside. Her brother, Dolius, is in her kitchen, his feet on her table. He says 'so you spoke to life's manager.' Beth rushes him, tackling him to the ground with a hug. She tells him her name is Beth, and he responds that he hopped so since he broke into Beth's house.    To be continued.
