Session One: The Midwife's Manor Report

General Summary

Our story begins in the coastal city of Gafyros, inside the Broken Sword Inn & Tavern. Our three adventurers - the quiet Aaracockra Druid Verreaux "Ro", the awkward Leonin Bard Maru, and the standoffish Helltouched Ranger Desha - were approached by a Gnome named Asan who works for Senator Alina Grimwander.   Asan, acting on behalf of the Senator, tasks the group to check on the midwife, Torji, who lives in a large house on the outskirts of Gafyros, about a days journey away. Asan informs the group that the Senator is concerned because of the increase in monstrous activity reported by the local chapter of the The Purple Herons Mercenary Company that Torji may be unsafe and wants her to come back to town ideally, or at least know if she is still alive.   The group takes on the task, but decides to get more information about Torji and the road to her house from several sources around town. Desha got some initial information from a young man who works at the broken sword named Peterri. The group also visited the local bakery where Torji ordered her bread from and offered to deliver her most recent order. From there the group visited the Purple Heron's Mercenary Company where they met Elvis, who directed them to a group of "trainees" who sometimes deliver supplies to Torji. The group learned from this group of trainees that the most recent person to make the trek to Torji's came across a creature covered with slime that smelled like death. She was so scared that she ran all the way back to Gafyros.   Having gathered sufficient information the group made their way to Torji's home. Along the way they encountered a pond that had a strange jelly-like film covering the top of it. There was also a large fruit that resembled a lilypad floating on top. Maru was able to identify the fruit as being the Roseberry, which is native to the Merry Peninsula in the Frozen Beyond, far north of Aaskrordius. The group left the pond behind and continued their journey only to discover they were being followed by a slimy severed hand. Ro killed the thing and scooped it up, believing it warranted further investigation.   Finally, the group made it to Torji's home. Torji didn't answer, but the group knew they needed to inspect the manor. After scoping out the perimeter, the three adventurers decided to enter through the kitchen. Unfortunately, when they did this Torji's magical alarm system went off and several of her household objects began defending her home against the "intruders." The group managed to defeat the stove and a kitchen knife, before they made their way into the home. Maru was able to help everyone avoid being enchanted by a peculiar painting and the group made their way upstairs, looking for Torji.   The first room they inspected upstairs contained a sleeping baby manticore. The second contained Torji hiding in a corner with a *very* pregnant woman at her side.
