Session XIX: The Indomito Report

General Summary

Lykee completes her scrye of the child Lucian, seeing him apparently happy and healthy, wearing little silks in the Imperial black and white. Somewhere in the room where the child sits, two voices, one young and one old, argue over the completion of a gate. The young voice presses impatiently to know how soon it will be completed. The older voice replies anxiously that they need only a glassmaker of sufficient skill, but that his sources tell him there is one living in one of the Silver Cities. As Lykee Gelbelath's scrying fades, another voice enters the room, that of a middle-aged woman. When Lykee tells her companions what she heard, the Party come to believe that they were overhearing the Emperor himself, Aulus Decius, speaking to someone unknown, and that the third voice may have been his mother, the Empress Regent. With no more time to consider the scrying ritual, however, the Party assumes their positions to spring their plan to capture the Indomito, the Imperial ship that had ferried the former king's assassins to the city.   In the early hours of the morning, the Party station a detachment of the royal guards along the wharf leading to the dock where the Indomito is moored. Leading the surprise attack, they slip onto the ship, where they are nearly ambushed by a band of soldiers waiting in the rigging. Zélie defeats two of them with a barrage of punches, while Lykee thunderously ejects two more overboard. They signal the guards to begin boarding to secure the ship, and Lykee begins to detect the thoughts of other crew on board, as well as perhaps more fiendish entities, which Ragal senses as well.   The Party go below decks, led by Jessie, who encounters the ships remaining sailors, all somewhat sickened by the tainted food that had been sent aboard the ship the day before. They also seemed frightened of some unknown terror beyond a set of locked double doors, sealed by magic. Jessie convinces the sailors to surrender, and they are taken into custody.   Unable to break through the magical seal, nor wishing to tip their hand early, the party return above deck, where Captain Aaron and the royal guard have captured the ship's commander, Quintus Jemii. The Party learn from him, after a tense standoff, that he was sent with orders to make port in Lyspont, and that the cabin below him was sealed without his knowledge of what it carried. He was aware only of the two Immortals, Braxos and Kurtzos, who were traveling with them to Muindor.
