Session 5 - Strange Magics

General Summary

A piece of the Past

While the rest of the party are investigating the next floor, Amethyst stays downstairs, engrossed in the books and journals she found downstairs. They paint a picture as to the purpose of this place and its day to day dealings. Among the books she finds the last journal entry of the leader of this outpost. It talks about the seas coming again, and how they must get ready and put the protections in place. She grabs a handful of books and maps and joins the rest of the party upstairs.  

Just Dwarf Things

She finds them gathered around the lectern, all a little puzzled as to what is going on. Amethyst simply walks straight up to the lectern and quill as if there is no barrier, much to the surprise of the rest of the group, who are still unable to approach. Amethyst tells them that Dwarves are quite good at warding magic, and in the past were even better at it. Some wards could keep out non dwarves or even could be attuned to certains clans or bloodlines, which one this is remains a mystery.   The Quill seems to be repeating the same two lines over and over again, One from about 400 years ago which says the event is happening again, emergency procedures put it place. The second is from about 17 years ago which says, unknown occupation sensed, emergency procedures activated.  

A Clue at Last

The party continue exploring, finding the rest of this floor given over to what seem like ofices or small meeting rooms. Going up a floor, they find a series storerooms, these rooms seem to contain more precious or delicate items. Each room has a series of ledgers which denote the item, it's value, who logged it in and out and the dates it was logged in and out. The last day saw a large uptake in the amount of items being stored and withdrawn. Upon reading one of the ledgers Amethyst notices a familiar name, it seems a member of the Slavesh family came through here about 400 years ago, and on this last day, checked out a large green gemstone of staggering worth.  

A Veritable Treasure Trove

Tiara attunes herself to the magical energies and picks out a number of items and chests that glow with magical power. Nothing too extraordinary, mostly illusions, enchantments and abjuration magics, but still obvious signs as to the worth of most of these items. She sets about going from room to room marking those items which seem to have magical auras about them, for later study. Mara gets a quick lesson in lockpicking, and proves to be quite an adept student, managing to open the lock Piper had been attempting to get open. Inside lie a pair of fine wine flutes, with protection magics on them, usually given as gifts at dwarven weddings, quite a find!  

Broken Remains

Continuing upwards they come to the next floor, however this is the end of the line. Little remains of this level, just a pile of rubble, and broken jagged walls. The barrier which keeps the water out, only extends a couple of feet from the ground. Upon investigation, they discover that the top portion of this tower seems to have collapsed in on itself, the cause however, elludes them. Realising there is little left to explore, the party decide to head back down to the first room, and see if they can find some information as to where this Slavesh person had been heading.  

Disturbing Vibrations

As they head down the last flight of stairs, they see a bright light. Moving forward cautiously they realise it is the light globe from one of the submersibles. Norrel has come back as promised and is floating just outside the entrance. Had it been an hour already? They wave to Norrel to let him know they are ok, and are about to head back in to the "records Room", when Pippin feels a chill run down her spine, and a flash of the vision from the previous night springs into her mind: dark tendrils snaking towards her. Some of the others begin to feel a very slight vibration coming from somewhere beneath them.........   ..............DUN, DUN, DUUUUUUUUN.
