Session 8: Wanted in the Capital

General Summary

The party arrived in Zarastil, and after a quick interaction with some folksguard at the gates who asked them about a minotaur, a goliath, a women in armour and a strange man. Since they had no information for them, the folksguard simply waved them through. Upon entering the capital the group took a walk down to the harbour and further down into the famous deepmarket.  Having figured out that the second shard in the song of the broken eye might be referring to the capital of Aeryon, they visited the inn down by the lowest point of the city in order to search for information that might lead them to the shard.    In the inn the Gentle Serpent, the merfolk Cily referred them to the half-elf trader known simply as Trader Joe. The group left, but before heading to Trader Joes shop they visited the potion shop down by the deepmarket. But after seeing her prices they left, but not before Ravojhan had bought an assortment of different herbs and strange ingredients. When they then arrived at the shop of Trader Joes, all but Ravojhan entered. The Dragonborn instead walked over to an orphaned genasi who was selling grilled fish on sticks. Upon entering the shop the party were greeted by name, which caught them off-guard. After some discussions, they finally revealed their interest in the Broken Eye, without revealing that they had it. The half-elf seemed to have an extreme interest in the artefact of legend. He had located one of the shards to a cave in the depths outside Zarastil. The group thanked him for sharing what he knew but never revealed their true intentions. Afterwhich they all joined Ravojhan for some fishsticks.    They then began to discuss how they would get out to the cave, out in the bay. But after a lively and somewhat misguided discussion, all except Quinumo decided to go to the brothel named the Rum-Red Corset. Quinumo instead decided to spend his night productively and went to the Sour Barracuda in search of sailors. The rest of the group went to the not yet busy brothel and found themselves a table. Aurora had never been to a place like that and thought it was just a regular tavern, much like Trinky and Kleech who didn't even know what sex was. Ravojhan had just followed them to witness them trying to figure it all out. In the end, after being offered "rooms" by a working girl, Aurora ended up having a therapeutic conversation with a handsome half-orc, whilst Trinky and Kleech were thought all about how sex works and the whole "birds and the bees" talk, whilst also getting to know about a nice captain named Errol Ross. Ravojhan stayed in the bar, drinking and waiting until his now enlightened and scarred companions.    Meanwhile, Quinumo had managed to find and befriend the crew of Captian Ross. When the group had left the brothel and found Quinnie drunk with the sailors. He shared what he had found, and later Aurora and Ravojhan followed some of the sailors to their ship, before promptly returning to the inn and getting a room. The next day they all headed down into the harbour to find the ship of Captain Ross, which they had scouted the night before. There they found a large ship with golden sails and a mimic figurehead. Upon recognizing Quinumo they were all invited aboard where they were lead into the captain's suite. The dark-skinned man clad in a large green cloak greeted them and introduced himself. The party asked if they could borrow his boat to go out into the bay. The captain offered them one of his rowboats in exchange for a cut of what they may find down there, which the party accepted.   Upon accepting the captains offer and they returned to the square by the harbour, they saw that six new wanted posters had been plastered on the notice board. These had pictures of the party and the wizard Sneekaround. Realizing that it was now dangerous to head into town they only made the most necessary of errands. This meant that after some trips to an armoury and smith, Trinky made her way down to a friend of Captain Ross. The Naga Eliondormarunakres, who had a magic shop by the deepmarket, whilst the rest of the party stayed in the rowboat. There Trinky was forced to choose between different options for underwater breathing. In the end, she bought five cursed rings created by the naga, with the instructions to only wear them underwater.    Upon Trinkys return they finally headed out to investigate the possible place of one of the three shards. Once they had reached the location that Trader Joe had pointed out to them. As they entered the water they quickly realized that the bay was much deeper than anticipated. They swam down for about a kilometers before they found an entrance to a temple. Inside they found that the pressure of the water was magically neutralized. They also found a cult of Sahuagin along with some sharks, who were being controlled. Something they found out as Kleech tried to magically bond with the shark. This alerted the priest who was controlling the sharks. They were led to his chambers, where they saw the shard attached to a golden shark-headed statue.    The priest began to question them and a discussion broke out. In the end, Quinumo had managed to almost convince the priest to give them the shard, until he mentioned the perfect wish that was promised the one who found all shards. This changed everything and convinced the Sahuagin priest to imprison them and take the artefact for himself. A fight broke out, which ended with the party killing all the Sahuagin in the room including the priest. This unleashed the sharks on the sahuagin guards in the other room. The party started to try and release the shard from the statue. That's when they found some text on the bottom of the statue stating that it only opened for its own kind. After a failed attempt with the hand of the sahuagin, Kleech went to fetch the shark he had bonded with before. After casting yet another spell on the shark to make it befriend him. He then brought back to the rest for the party and as the statue touched the shark it dropped the shard.    The party then saw their opportunity to escape and all grabbed onto the large shark before Kleech asked it to bring them to the surface. Riding on the shark, they quickly made it back to their rowboat as the sharks attacked and ate the Sahuagins in the temple. Back in the boat they said goodbye to the shark and rowed back to Captain Ross golden ship. On the way, Ravojhan inspected the statue and valued it to around 500gp. To compensate the captain they decided to give him 100gp. When they confronted him about their findings they gave him the gold and asked if they could keep the boat. Instead, they were offered to ride along with the Captain and his crew. He then revealed that he knew that he knew about the bounties they had on them.    Thus the party left Zarastil behind, heading to the Feyfire Forest in Scaelor, with one of the three shards safely procured, as it vibrates to reunite with the artefact.
